Emerging Player Program 2017 & UK Tour 2018 Dear Emerging Player Congratulations! You have been selected for the Emerging Player Program for winter 2017. You are also invited to tour the UK, play 7 games and train at Lords with my Emerging Player Squad in 2018! The Emerging Player Program is only open to young talented players (like you) who are the next generation of keen cricketers in Victoria. To qualify for a position in the emerging player program you must have played in the recent Craig Shield competition. The program is an exciting mix of practical sessions combined with the latest innovations in cricket. The program exposes you to former Test greats and elite coaches and their methods at this vital stage of your cricket career. East/South will be based at the Sandown Indoor Sports Centre. North/West will be based at Clever Cricket in Thomastown. Both venues have long run ups for the fast bowlers. Times The program will run 6.00pm till 7.30pm each Sunday at Thomastown and Sandown. Variations will occur when the specialist sessions are running. However all sessions will run on a Sunday evening. The Program June 18- Session 1 Neil Buszard – lecture “What makes a successful first class player” Neil is the ideal speaker for an emerging player. He played in excess of 300 games of premier cricket where he became a successful captain coach of Collingwood CC leading them to a premiership. He then took on the role of state selector through the mid 1990’s working with the states elite. However his major role for over a decade was to direct the states best young players at the VIS where he saw first hand what makes a successful first class player. He is the former fielding specialist for the Melbourne Renegades. * The session will run at the lecture theatres at Bell city event centre. July 16 -Net Session 2 David Tate- the next step, Premier cricket David Tate played 241 first grade games for Essendon and has experienced all aspects of premier cricket as a captain and coach (Essendon and Richmond). As a state squad member and state second eleven representative David is very well placed to run this session giving all participants a glimpse of what is required to “take the next step.” All Premier club scouts will be invited to all net session with a view of recruiting you to their Development programs for 2017 and beyond. The emerging player’s booklet is sent to all clubs in advance of this session with all your major scores and achievements listed. July 23 Session 3 -20/20 and beyond- Lloyd Mash Bushranger opening bat and recent Renegades 20/20 assistant coach Lloyd Mash takes you though the recent developments in the game. New strokes, balls and tactics are both discussed and practiced. Providing a valuable insight into what skills the future player will require. As a current player Lloyd has been involved in the successful Cricket Victoria structure in all the key facets of 20/20 cricket. July 30 Session 4- One Day Cricket- Graham Vimpani Former Bushranger opening bat (Sheffield Shield, Domestic One day and Super 8’s) Graeme Vimpani was part of a successful era when the Bushrangers won the national one day title. His session on one day cricket is not to be missed. Aug 6 Session 5 Specialist sessions (also 7 and 9) Small group coaching (12 or less per group) with a former international player! Batting -Graham Yallop, former Test skipper who scored freely at both Test and First class level. 9 Test tons and a top score of 268 for Australia. Batting -Keith Stackpole, former vice captain of Australia who delighted crowds with his stroke play. Top score of 207 in a Test, Keith is also an outstanding coach of young players. Fast Bowling-Rodney Hogg, former Test fast bowler who took a record 41 wickets in an Australian Ashes series at an amazing average of 12.85! Fast Bowling- Merv Hughes, former champion Test fast bowler and recent test selector. Merv is a fantastic coach of young players and a player who brings 212 test wickets to the table! Always very popular and easy to approach. Spin bowling-Ray Bright- 25 Tests, World Series Cricket, both Centenary Tests and the Tied Test in India, Ray has done it all. He is the best spin bowling coach in Victoria and is currently State selector for the Victorian Sheffield Shield team. Wicket Keeping- John Shannon- Essendon and North Melbourne champion who 3 times was the leading gloveman in Premier Cricket and a Victorian State second X1 regular. John is a wealth of knowledge for all keepers who train under him. Aug 13 Session 6 Fitness- Career Fitness Pty Ltd This session is a professional fitness assessment by Aaron Whear and his team at Career Fitness. (Aaron played for Casey - South Melbourne CC and Preston CC.) Testing includes * Beep test *flexibility * Percentage body fat *Strength and conditioning *Weight to power ratio * Diet August 20 Session 7- Specialist session Working in small groups with your head coaches. August 27– Session held at Xavier College, Hawthorn Session 8- Net session – Troy Rowe fielding Troy Rowe is an experienced assistant coach at the Melbourne Renegades where fielding is of the highest priority. He will be taking all players through the modern fielding skills that win or lose games of T 20 cricket. September 3 Session 9- Specialist sessions.-Working in small groups with your head coaches. September 10 Session 10- Net session. Shaun Brown- “Cue Utilisation” and how to concentrate. Shaun begins the session with a talk and practical video examples about cue utilisation and concentration and what it means for batsmen (and bowlers). The net session that follows covers a full range of mental batting and bowling match day skills. Optional Extras! Practice Matches - September Holidays 2017** Shaun Brown will be arranging optional practice matches in Northern Victoria for keen students. Details will be released during the session one lecture. Credit card number: UK Tour for EPP 2018! Since 2015, SBCC in conjunction with Horizon Sporting Events Pty Ltd have taken successful tours to the UK and Paris. The tour is the chance of a life time to play games in the Northern Summer against strong opposition. The tour features 16 days (including the final 2 days in Paris) 7 games Training session at Lords! Training session with a County Cricket Club ( recent tours have trained with Leicestershire and Gloustershire CCC development staff) Take in all the cultural sights. Parents and family members are invited to join the tour also. Our 2015 tour involved 1 team but travelled with a group of 39 keen and excited family members. 2016 involved 2 teams and a tour party of over 50 and 2017 has 3 teams booked with many family and friends traveling to the UK, France and Ireland!
