Empty freezers-Plan use of foods
Charge Accounts, credit card companies
Subscriptions: notice requires several weeks
Have appliances serviced for moving
Friends and Relatives
Transfer Bank Funds: Arrange check-cashing in new city
Remember arrangements for TV, antennae
and cable services
Clean rugs or clothing before moving: have them
wrapped for moving
New location Insurance Coverage: Life, Health, Fire, Auto
Automobile: transfer of car title registration, driver’s
license, new windshield sticker, and motor club membership
Utility Companies: gas, light, water, telephone,
fuel and cable
Arrange for any refunds or deposits
Remove curtain rod, drapery rods, towel racks
School Records: ask for copies or transfer children’s
school records
Health: medical, dental, prescription histories.
Ask doctor and dentist for referrals. Transfer needed
prescriptions, x-rays, etc.
Church, Clubs Civic Organizations: Transfer memberships
and get letters of introduction
Pets: ask about regulations of pet licenses, vaccinations,
tags, etc.
With your Moving Counselor, check with the following:
insurance coverage, packing and unpacking labor, arrival
day, various shipping papers, method and time of
expected payment.
Plan special care and needs of infants, children, pets
Arrange for service in new location
Home Delivery: laundry, newspaper, change-over services
Defrost freezer/ refrigerator. Place charcoal to
displace odors
& potted plants
AND ON MOVING DAY:
Carry currency, jewelry,
documents yourself; or use
registered mail
Plan for transporting pets; they are poor traveling
companions if unhappy
Let a close friend or relative know route and schedule
you will travel including overnight stops; use him/her
as message headquarters
Double check old closets, drawers, shelves to be sure
they are empty
Leave old keys needed by new owner
