Session – Possession

Equipment
Ball Manipulation – 20 x 20 area with a smaller box in the middle. Players are
split evenly between outside and inside (with ball). Players from the middle
dribble to the outside players who then take the ball and dribble through the
central box before dribbling the ball to another player on the outside.
Progress so that just the players in the middle are dribbling, play a 1-2 on the
outside. 90 second challenge.

3v3 Possession with support – one player from each team in the 2 end thirds
‘safe zone’ and a 3v3 in the middle. Aim is to score a goal by passing through
the small goals. If a pass isn’t on the player can pass back to the ‘safe zone’
player and keep possession. Progress the session so that the ‘safe zone’
player can join in to create an overload. Swap teams on each pitch.

4 v 4 Possession – 4 v 4 game with 4 players from each team on the outside
as support players. Players in the middle look to score through the coned
goals within the area. If they can’t score they should look to keep possession.
Players on the outside can be used to keep possession of the ball and then
they play in back to a team mate. To score a goal the ball must be received
under control through the cones.

8 v 8 with 2 players on the outside for each team. These players can act as
support but cannot be tackled. If passed to they can join in the game and
create an overload but if possession is lost they return to the outside. Swap
these players regularly.
