Quotes from our parents and carers
“[My Child] loves school and I’m very proud of all she has achieved so far.”
“We are very happy with the school, [Our Child] loves coming in to the school which makes
us feel even more happier.”
“Well done to all!!!”
“We have had to move further afield… and we are devastated to move [Our Child] from
such an incredible school but we feel so very lucky that Bramber was his first experience of
schooling. He loves going to school and hasn’t missed a day (apart from for a wedding and
funeral)! It’s exceptionally good.”
“Bramber First is an excellent school, not only providing a good education, but supporting
good social and emotional development. Our daughter says’ “it’s very friendly”.”
“We have always been happy with Bramber First School. Both our children have been
given a great start to school life in all aspects, and we say a big thank you to all members of
staff”
“Keep up the good work! Thanks also to the office staff who are always helpful.”
“Both my children are very happy at Bramber and I am impressed with their learning.”
“Children’s toilets – Do these continue to be mixed sex throughout the school years?”
“I am very happy with the school and how it teaches children to behave and respect each
other. Thank you.”
“Really impressed with the communication with my son’s teacher. He is progressing really
well. He wanted to put “double yes” to is your son happy at school!”
“We have been really happy with how well Bramber School have worked at settling our son
into Reception. He loves coming to school and has made good progress so far.”
“[My child] has thrived at Bramber First and the change in his development since starting
school last September is amazing. Keep up the good work!”
“Thank you very much.”
“My daughter would like more homework! (Parent thinks right amount!)”
“Q 16 would have been 1 if website was better.”
“We continue to be extremely happy with the school and are delighted that our child can
stay on until year 6.The new topics introduced after the changes to the national curriculum
have been exciting and enjoyable and thoroughly engaged our daughter. It is also nice to
see more clubs and inter school tournaments as well as some wonderful trips and visits to
support learning.”
“I feel like my son is making good progress and is happy but as I am not in the class or
school with him it is hard to comment on the quality of the teaching or how the children
May 2015
behave when I can’t see it, although I feel satisfied with this. Also as I have not seen the
school dealing with bullying yet I find it hard to give an opinion on this.”
“I would like paper copies of the newsletter, as I am rubbish at checking my emails.”
We rarely pick-up or drop off ….. and so have less opportunity to discuss any issues with
the teacher which is why communication scored as a 2 not a 1 !
“Too much homework – because I would prefer homework wasn’t set until year 3 at least.
Topic based/ choosing homework projects would be preferable to weekly maths and
spellings.”
Regarding Q.6 – whilst my son is making good progress with reading he does now regard
this as “hard work” and therefore I feel he is not always enjoying reading or being read to as
much. I feel this will change when he becomes more confident in his reading so I do not
feel this is a reflection on the school.
“Question 17 I prefer to receive the newsletter on paper. And there’s always the option of
using the school’s website to look at it anyway.”
“Our son is happy, safe and making good progress at Bramber. He’s been well looked after
and would definitely recommend this school to others.”
“Thank you”
Governing Body’s Response
We were delighted to receive so many happy, positive responses again this year. We do
take your comments and judgments very seriously and wherever any individual matters
have arisen with regard to your comments (where you have identified yourselves) we pass
these back to Mrs Taylor to help answer the queries directly with any parent.
We, as the Governing Body, work with the Headteacher and the school as a whole, using
our monitoring and your opinions to plan for school improvement and develop policies. Our
role generally is keeping an eye on the smooth running of the school in the right strategic
direction. We do try to ensure that the high standards set are maintained from an exciting
and fulfilling curriculum to general behaviours and values. Whilst we do not intervene in the
day-to-day management of the school we do keep an overview of the school as a whole.
The Governing Body at Bramber First School is made up of, up to12 Governors at any one
time.
Currently, we have 9 Governors and consist of 2 elected members of staff, Mrs Taylor, 1
Local Authority representative, 2 elected parent governors and 3 co-opted governors.
Hopefully, 2 further co-opted governors, will be joining us in September.
We all work voluntarily for the benefit of the school, many of us also hold full time jobs and
therefore have a significant range of skills.
We a presently in the process of updating the school website. We note that some of your
comments relate to the website and the connected level of communication. We have
commissioned a firm to bring our website up to date and we do believe that this should be
very user friendly and to the benefit of pupils and parents alike.

The toilets in Blue Wing are all separate cubicles but next to each other with one end for
the boys cubicles and one for the girls. Hand-washing is mixed i.e. side-by-side. Currently,
as the children progress to Yellow Wing, the boys toilets are separate from the girls and
have urinals. We are planning to refurbish these in 2016-17 so that the boys have only
cubicles but the toilets will be carry on divided by gender for Y3, 4, 5 and 6.
Thank you for your comments about homework which will be fed back to the teaching staff.
We think that the percentage who think that it is the right amount of homework
demonstrates that the school has got it right for the vast majority and that there are others
who think it’s too much or too little.
We, as Governors, recognise that most parents still would prefer paper copies of the
newsletters and we will continue with this. Our new website company offers an email
service for parents so we may well offer both to see if that meets all your needs in this
aspect of communication.
Thank you once again for all your responses.
