It is important to measure if child maintenance benefits truly increase the welfare of children, and whether it matters towards which
family member child maintenance benefits are directed.
By applying this approach, it is possible to determine interaction between individual household members. Therefore, it is referred to as intra
household research.
Also, an application of this approach provides a unique opportunity to compare private and public goods within Icelandic household, and
compare Icelandic households to foreign households.
The data applied be expected to provide more detailed information about intra-household behaviour than extant research in the field.
