GEORGE MALONE, Sleepy
Hollow's shifty h a l f b a c k ,
needed four yards here to
make a crucial first down
with time running out inside
Greeley's 10 yard
line.
However, big Tom Hanrahan
(72) and Larry Savino of
Greeley saw to it that George
only got three yards, forcing
th'e Horsemen to give up
possession of the ball to
Greeley. This defensive effort,
plus the fine play of Greeley's
talented backfield, gave the
Quakers a 12-8 win and first
place in the NWIL.
G R E E L E Y ' S Bruce Bertkau
outleaps Lucky Valentine of
Sleepy for the ball in last
Saturday's NWIL Super Bowl
game won by coach Nick
Perrelle's Quakers, 12-8. It
was this play that was the
turning point of the game.
Greeley, trailing 8-6, was
faced with a fourtb-and-one
on Sleepy's 30. Here, coach
Perrelle gambled and won. QB
Tom Vredenburgh faded back
and tossed the ball to Bertkau

the next play, Jamie Kiernan,
G r e e l e y ' s bread-and-butter

for what proved to be the
winning TD.
