MONTHLY WEATHER SUMMARY – MAY 2017
May 2017 goes on record as the second hottest May ever experienced in
Bahrain since 1902.
The mean temperature of the month was 32.6°C. This is 2.8°C above the
long-term normal. This goes on record as the second highest mean
monthly temperature for May and only exceeded by May 2012 which
was 32.8°C.
The mean maximum temperature of the month was 37.0°C. This goes on
record as the sixth highest mean maximum temperature for May since
1946 and exceeded by May 2012 which was 37.9°C, May 2015 which was
37.4°C, May 2007 which was 37.3°C, May 2014 which was 37.2°C and
May 2006 & 2008 which was 37.1°C. The highest temperature recorded in
the month was 40.8°C set on the 16th May at Bahrain International Airport.
But recorded 43.6°C on the 30th May at Durrat Al Bahrain.
During the month Bahrain had 3 days with maximum temperature
which reached 40°C or more.

The mean minimum temperature of the month was 29.0°C. This goes on
record as the second highest mean minimum temperature for May since
1946 and only exceeded by May 2012 which was 29.1°C. The lowest
temperature recorded was 25.1°C set on the 2nd May at Bahrain
International Airport. But recorded 23.7°C in the same night
at Durrat Al Bahrain.
The mean relative humidity for May was 47%. The mean maximum
relative humidity for the month was 65%. The mean minimum relative
humidity for May was 27%.
Only trace amounts of precipitation was reported on 12th May at the
Bahrain International Airport. Note that the long-term average
precipitation for May is 1.1 mm. The highest monthly precipitation ever
recorded in May was 12.7 mm which occurred on May 1907.
