Hockey ACT (HACT) is the not-for-profit state sporting organisation responsible for the development,
governance, promotion and delivery of hockey programs within the ACT. HACT comprises of 24
member clubs and owns and operates 2 facilities The National Hockey Centre at Lyneham and
Tuggeranong Hockey Park, Greenway.

Position Purpose
The Game Development Coordinator is responsible for developing an elite pathway for hockey
players and coaches in the ACT. The position will oversee the appointment of all representative team
officials and ensure the selection process for all representative teams is adhered to. The position, in
conjunction with the ACT Academy of Sport (ACTAS) National Training Centre coach, will be required
to work with all coaches across the ACT to develop their skills and abilities with both a theoretical and
practical emphasis. The position is also responsible for the management of the Hockey Ed online
database and achieving Hockey Australia’s (HA) coach development KPI’s for the ACT. The position
will also be required to coach an ACT outdoor representative team.
HOCKEY A.C.T.
Key Responsibilities
1. Management and coordination of the HACT representative team program including U21, U18,
U15 and U13 ACT representative outdoor and indoor sides as well as the Canberra regional
boys and girls programs. This includes overseeing that trials are run in accordance with HACT
guidelines, working with coaches to ensure effective preparation, coordination and delivery of
training sessions, feedback to players and coaches regarding performance and providing
player assessments to the ACTAS NTC coach.
2. Delivering both theory and practical sessions for all senior and junior representative and club
coaches to increase the skill set of all coaches with the aim to improve and increase the depth
of the player pathway in the ACT.
3. Coaching the Emerging Talent Squad (ETS) program with the aim of progressing ACT
athletes to improved performance at a national championship level with the ultimate aim of
having these athletes recognised at a national level.
4. Ensuring that Hockey ACT achieves all relevant coaching KPI’s as agreed between HACT and
HA along with management of the Hockey Ed database. This will involve the organisation and
delivery of Community Coach, Level 1 and Level 2 coaching.
5. Design and implementation of a club coach reporting system with relevant benchmarking to
assist with a consistent quality of delivery of coaching in our junior programs/club competition
structure. This reporting system will be designed to assist coaches with improving their
desired key skills in order to work optimally with players of targeted ages by providing the
framework and training drills to develop these skills. This resource will be easily accessible to
coaches of all levels and will be under continuous review to ensure the most up to date skills
and drills are available to our coaches.
6. The organisation and management of the ACT Regional Player Program. This will involve the
organisation of coaches and managers for each team, organisation of training for all teams,
completing team registration forms for all carnivals and arranging travel plans for the teams to
carnivals.
7. Along with the HACT/ACTAS National Training Centre Coach, represent HACT as an exofficio member of the HACT High Performance Advisory Committee.
Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential
 Hockey Australia recognised Level 2 Coaching Accreditation or willingness to work towards
this qualification.
 Experience coaching hockey at a representative level.
 Excellent communication, presentation and conflict management skills.
 Excellent organisational skills.
 High level of enthusiasm with a positive and proactive approach.
 Passion for hockey at all levels from grass roots to elite pathway.
 Ability to work with players and coaches of all skill levels.
 Flexibility to work weekends as required.
 Valid Driver’s Licence.
 ACT Working with Vulnerable Persons check.
HOCKEY A.C.T.
Desirable
 Tertiary education in a relevant field e.g. Sports Management or Sports Coaching
 Valid First Aid Certificate or Sports Trainers Qualification.
Experience
1. The ability to develop, promote and conduct entry level hockey player participation and
membership growth programs.
2. A record of successful hockey coaching, particularly in regard to individual skills development and
the subsequent progression of talented athletes onto representative pathways.
3. Demonstrated ability to design, implement and monitor individualised training and competition
programs for developmental and elite athletes.
4. Demonstrated understanding of the needs of developing athletes with experience in athlete case
management.
5. Demonstrated understanding of the integration of athlete performance services into individual and
overall program design with the objective of improving athletic performance;
6. Proven program administration and organisational skills including computer literacy in word, excel
and power-point.
7. Demonstrated high level of written and oral communication skills with proven ability to develop
effective cooperative working relationships with partners such as HA, ACTAS and other
stakeholders and suppliers.
8. Proven ability to work independently and as a member of a team;
9. Demonstrated understanding of the structure of national and state sporting organisations
including the role of state based regional academies, Institutes/Academies of Sport within the HA
High Performance Pathway.
Other
This role will have after hour coaching requirements with all representative training taking place
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening’s. The role will also require weekend work occasionally
and travel away to National Championship events. The salary for this job has been developed with
these requirements in mind. Hockey ACT will also offer the successful candidate flexible hours to
cater for these after-hours commitments.
