GIRLS’ LACROSSE Eden Prairie storms back to win fourth championship E 256 Girls’ Lacrosse In the first consolation semifinal, Lakeville South advanced to the final following an 18-7 victory over Blaine. Leading from the start, the Cougars got five goals from Amanda Boisjolie and three each from Chloe Crosby and Emma Schaefer. Blaine’s Abby Jones scored four goals. The second consolation semifinal needed overtime to decide a winner. That victory went to Maple Grove, thanks to Hailey Herdine, who scored at 4:51 of the extra session to send the Crimson to the consolation final. Cretin-Derham Hall of St. Paul scored the last five goals of the game to force an overtime. Megan Reis and Bree Osbourne had three goals each for Cretin-Derham Hall. Herdine scored a single-game state tournament record eight goals, and along with her three assists, set a mark for most points (11) in a game. Her goal-scoring record snapped the previous mark of seven held by four others. Herdine’s single-game points record breaks the mark of 10 set by Olivia Nolan of The Blake School in 2015. In the first of four quarterfinals, The Blake School opened with a 12-10 victory over Lakeville South. Shannon Ellis scored three goals and assisted on another for the Bears. Annie Lyman, Sophie Skallerud, Emily Johnsrud and Carly Bullock had two goals apiece. Chloe Crosby paced Lakeville South with two goals and three assists. Prior Lake built an 8-2 lead at the half en route to a 16-6 victory over Blaine in the second quarterfinal. Ashley Norberg fueled Prior Lake with four goals and four assists. Abby Jones scored all six goals for Blaine. Stillwater Area also used a strong first half to build a big lead in what would end as a 146 victory over Maple Grove in the third quarterfinal. Carly Fedorowski scored five goals and assisted on another for Stillwater Area, which extended a 9-3 halftime lead to 11-3 five minutes into the second half. Olivia Konigson chipped in three goals for the Ponies. Tippy Hill and Hailey Herdine had two goals each for Maple Grove. In the final quarterfinal, top-seeded Eden Prairie cruised to a 20-2 victory over CretinDerham Hall. Naomi Rogge had five goals and an assist to lead six different players who scored for Eden Prairie. Among them, Kelly Wolfe and Sammie Morton, who had four goals each. The 2016 State Girls’ Lacrosse Tournament quarterfinals were played at Chanhassen High School on June 14. The Eagles overcame a six-goal deficit to win the state title for the second consecutive season and fourth time overall. Eden Prairie’s other championships were in 2007 and ’09. The Eagles scored seven of the final eight goals to end the first half to forge a 7-all deadlock at the break. Naomi Rogge and Sara Woodring had two goals each in the spree. After Blake opened the scoring on a goal from Shannon Ellis to take an 8-7 lead in the first minute of the second half, Eden Prairie responded with four unanswered goals for an 11-8 advantage. Brooke Lewis had two goals in that surge for the Eagles. Rogge finished with three goals and an assist for Eden Prairie. Lewis had three goals as well while Woodring had two goals and five assists. Emma Burke, Annie Lyman, Emily Johnsrud and Shannon Ellis had two goals each for the Bears. Since the state tournament began in 2007, Eden Prairie and The Blake School are the only programs to emerge as state champions. In the third-place game, Carly Fedorowski scored four goals, including the eventual game-winner late in the second half, that gave Stillwater Area a 7-6 victory over Prior Lake. Lexi Peer led the Lakers with two goals. In the consolation final, unseeded Lakeville South recorded a 13-10 victory over No. 5 Maple Grove. Emma Schaefer scored four goals for the Cougars and Chloe Crosby added three more. Christina Kampa and Emily Herdine paced Maple Grove with three goals each. In the first championship semifinal, The Blake School out-lasted Prior Lake for a 12-10 victory. Annie Lyman and Shannon Ellis led The Blake School with three goals apiece. Emma Burke, Sophie Skallerud, and Emily Johnsrud each contributed two goals for the Bears. Ashley Norberg had four goals and two assists, and Sarah Pierson added two goals. In the lower-bracket semifinal, Eden Prairie earned a return trip to the championship match with a 15-14 victory over No. 4 Stillwater Area. Eden Prairie scored four goals in the first three minutes, but Stillwater Area tied the game 5-5 on a goal from Caitlin Carter at 12:02 in the first half. Each team went on little mini-runs, but Eden Prairie accounted for the final margin on a goal from Kacie Riggs at 16:40 in the second half. Naomi Rogge led all scorers with six goals and two assists. Sammie Morton and Sara Woodring added three and two goals, respectively, for the Eagles. Carly Fedorowski paced Stillwater Area with four goals and Abby Hagberg added three more. Eden Prairie’s Naomi Rogge nets the ball ahead of Ellie Ankeny of The Blake School in the eighth meeting of the Eagles and Bears in the tournament’s championship game. Rogge scored three goals to lead Eden Prairie to its second consecutive title with an 11-9 victory. 2015-2016 YEARBOOK & RECORD BOOK Minnesota State High School League 2016 State GIRLS’ Champion Eden Prairie Row 1 (L-R): Maggie Brown, Kacie Riggs, Charlie Snyder, Payton Borg, Emilie Bloyer, Kelly Wolfe, Reese Hugdhal.
