THE LANCER TEAMS
An option for everyone
The Boys and Girls Prep Hockey teams are nationally recognized,
field 55-plus game schedules, and compete as a Tier I Prep team
and as a USA Hockey national eligible team. The Boys Varsity A
team plays a 40-game schedule and competes for the State High
School Championship. The Boys Varsity B team plays 30-plus
games and prepares you for the next level.
THE HOCKEY PLAYERS
The heart of our program
We have had boys and girls from five countries, 26 states, and
five Canadian provinces join local day students in the Gilmour
hockey program. Through extensive school searches, these players
discovered why Gates Mills, a beautiful suburban community just
east of Cleveland, Ohio, is the place to be when it comes to prep
school hockey.
THE ICE TIME
A competitive edge
Gilmour provides open ice time almost every day, all year
long. During the season, each team practices every day. A
player can be on the ice from the very first day of school until graduation and beyond, since many alumni participate in GA
ice time. Few programs offer this level of access.
If you are joining Gilmour as a resident student, get ready
to enjoy a comprehensive experience. In addition to the time
focused on academic and extracurricular achievement, a myriad of
activities are provided. Mindful of the intellectual, social, cultural,
physical and spiritual dimensions of each student, the Residential Life staff plans activities, which encourage students to pursue
personal interests as well as to explore new avenues of growth.
The Director of Residential Life, along with a dedicated staff
of professionals, guides the program with an eye to the individual
needs of each student, maintaining regular communications with
the important adults in each student’s life: parents, teachers,
advisors, coaches, and informal mentors.

What Sets us Apart
Not even the best coach can give
each player the personal attention
or the repetitions needed to fully
develop their own unique talents.
When players have enough creative
time to expose their hidden gifts and
to work on specific skills they can
fully develop their natural talents.
Normal team practices are not set
up to provide this type of individualized attention. That is why
players from colder regions, where access to pond hockey ice is
readily available, tend to dominate hockey. At Gilmour Academy
we understand the importance of “pond hockey” ice time. It is our
ability to allow players to work on their own unique talents outside
of our normal team practices that sets us apart from 99 percent of
the other programs. Players can transform their game by utilizing
this “pond hockey” experience with dedicated individual skaters,
small group games and skills sessions, or by out-of-season
scrimmages. All of these ice-time opportunities blend together to
allow players the chance to be creative and to find their hidden
talent and natural gifts. Not only do we say “At Gilmour you can be
your best,” we also give you the means to achieve this outcome.
SPEND A DAY WITH A PLAYER
AND BRING YOUR EQUIPMENT
You can schedule a campus visit almost any day of the school year
Monday through Friday. During your campus visit, you will shadow
a current Gilmour student for the day. Arrival time is 7:45 a.m. You
will attend classes, meet teachers and students and experience life
at Gilmour. You and your parents also will visit with an Admissions
Office representative on that day.

Hockey Director John Malloy
TWO NHL-SIZE RINKS
365 DAYS OF ICE*
My mission at Gilmour Academy is to develop and oversee the country’s premier college-prep hockey program. Already
recognized for its outstanding academic programs, extracurricular
activities and athletic teams, Gilmour ventured into ice hockey in
the 1997-98 season with the completion of the Gilmour Academy
Ice Arena. Our hockey program has four school teams: nationally
recognized Boys and Girls Prep Hockey teams and Boys Varsity A
and B teams.
One of our program goals is to assist players in their
preparation to play college hockey. Helping players achieve
academic success is a key component to obtaining this goal.
Therefore, the hockey staff works with teachers, a
 dministrators
and the residential life staff in coordination with the parents and
players. Together, we create a comprehensive program that
optimizes each student-athlete’s individual abilities.
Gilmour is second to none in the resources it offers its
hockey players. The Gilmour Academy Ice Arena has two
NHL-size ice surfaces, 11 multi-sport locker rooms, “RapidShot”
shooting system, and a state-of-the-art fitness center. If you are
looking for an outstanding environment in which to pursue your
collegiate academic and hockey goals, I hope you will take the
time to look at the exceptional opportunities that Gilmour Academy
provides.

“I read an article about Gilmour Academy that caught my attention.
I was looking for a place where I could participate in hockey, golf,
cross country and baseball, but also continue to play hockey during
the fall and spring seasons. Most prep schools don’t even keep
their ice in, let alone allow you to play hockey out of season. At
Gilmour, I had the flexibility to choose the path that worked for me.
Not only was I able to participate in so many different sports, I did
so with the school’s support.”
Craig Frey ‘04 GA Alumnus
Craig graduated with a 3.5 G.P.A. and lettered in hockey, cross country, golf and
baseball while also playing for a nationally recognized in-line team and a AAA midget
pre-post hockey team.
It is this type of flexibility that makes Gilmour Academy such a unique
program. If you have the desire and attitude to reach new heights,
you can find everything you are looking for at Gilmour.
* (Except for a few exceptions)
Gilmour has a strong tradition of graduating young
men and women of moral character, who are
prepared to succeed in college and in life, with
a commitment to justice and compassion toward
others. By instilling a strong sense of self-worth
through individual achievement, Gilmour helps
students reach for their personal best. Through a
challenging academic program including 90-minute
classes, Socratic seminars, and a rigorous core
curriculum, students succeed because they
learn to think critically and solve problems in a
project-oriented world. Gilmour students often
discover that their best is better than they ever
thought possible.
