A PPT showing our (The Guardians) journey

The Guardians’
What we decided
&
How we implemented
Initial discussions – what we found
Road Safety is different in China
People are less aware of what it means to be safe on the roads
Road safety is not a topic discussed or taught at schools in China
After initial discussions our
students brainstormed ideas
for initiatives. Led by our
creative director some great
suggestions came from the
students. Ideas included
traffic wardens outside the
school, a campaign with
posters making students
aware of road safety, and
educational workshops but
we settled on a computer
game as we thought this
would be the most engaging
and would get our younger
students excited about
learning how to be safe on
the roads.
We are lucky to have some talented
students who have the skills to make
computer games and a teacher who is an
ex-software engineer however all
students inputted in very valuable ways.
After we had chosen the final initiative,
we split the 15 students into 3 teams
each with an elected leader
1) A technical team in charge of writing
the computer program for the game
2) A creative team in charge of making
the game educational and fun.
3) An educational research team
responsible for finding scenarios and
question we can use in the game
which are going to cover the theme
broadly.

Team 3
We worked together
on the game every
Monday and
Wednesday after
school but the
students also spent
many evenings and
weekends putting
the game together.
Writing computer
games is a very long
process.

The biggest challenge we had was
deciding on what kind of game to
make and what messages we are
sending to the younger students.
Games are fun but this one needs to
be educational. You’ll see when you
play the game its actually more fun
to get the question wrong where in
some scenarios the characters gets
run over but this is not the message
we want to give to our younger
students. Therefore, the follow up
road safety workshops will be
focusing on road safety as a serious
issue and the game will just be used
to initially engage the younger
students in the topic.
We pilot
tested the
game with the
target
audience
before
producing the
final version
The final version was
produced which we are
very proud of. All
drawings and scenarios
are 100% original and
produced by our
students. The aim of
the game is to engage
students in the topic
of road safety
We hope the game will lead to a better education of
road safety not only in our school but within other
schools in China and our local community by promoting
our initiative on our schools social network and through
teacher and
student-led
workshops
which include guest
speakers such
as local traffic
police
