CHADDERTON PARK FOOTBALL CLUB Under 9’s Eagles Chadderton Park Eagles V Rossendale Utd Away Date : 28th Feb 09 Team Joe Mikietyn Jake Fawcett Christian Thickett Milo Garratt- Simpson Jimmy Greaves, , George Whiteside Burns Lucas Kavanagh, Adam Thompson Quarter final of the cup and another very early depart, this time Rossendale was the venue, with Thomas away the eight eagles travelled with high hopes, the opponents today are in the league above us and have only lost once all season so we knew we would have a great challenge ahead. The pitch must be called the “KwikFit stadium” as every car needs a new exhaust after travelling down that road to get to it. The pitch was in good condition and at first glance it represented Rossendale skiing slope with the huge cross-field slope. Within minutes if not seconds of the start of the game Chaddy were 1 – 0 up, good pressure from Lucas upfront found the ball break to Jimmy on the right he took a touch and shot from distance and the ball skidded under the keeper into the bottom corner, soon one became two as Lucas pressed well and finished well from close range. 2 – 0 to the Eagles and Rossendale were stunned. Rossendale are a good team and they fought their way back into the game, what can only be described as a wonder goal got them back in it, from pretty much half way, a shot flew in the net before the blink of an a eye. 2 – 1. Any wing play was difficult for both teams as the slope simply forced the ball out of play, Rossendale pressed for the equaliser from a series of corners but the defence and Joe were on their toes and kept them at bay. Half time : 2 – 1 Eagles Quick chat at half time, and a great game was developing, Adam continued the half playing upfront and he kept pressing the defenders. Jake played a full game at the heart of the defence, everything that came his way he coolly dealt with, very good to see. Joe had to be on full alert as one of their players could shoot with venom from pretty much anywhere on the pitch. Milo and Christian worked hard to keep them from attacking and to develop our own attacking play. Chances were few in the second half but an unlucky free kick was given against Christian for handball and from distance the free kick took a wicked deflection off the wall and lopped into the goal for the Rossendale equaliser. 2 – 2 with only 5 mins to go. Full time 2 – 2. ( Extra time required ) EXTRA TIME Extra time and maybe pens, the first half of extra didn’t create many clear cut chances, the sloping pitch didn’t help but the winning team would be the one who desired it most. At half time we knew if we wanted it then a big final push was needed from everyone otherwise it was pens. The lads raised their game and created several winning chances but some good saves kept the scores level, with one minute left we pressed hard and the ball broke free on the edge of the box but the Eagles failed to score what was a great opportunity. With the clock ticking it looked like pens but the Eagles knew to keep going and up stepped George, he got the ball on the half way line, skipped passed the last defender ( as he had been doing all day ) and one on one with the keeper he coolly ran at goal and slotted it into the bottom corner what a goal.. The players went wild in joy, the supporters were overjoyed and the manager did a Jose Mourinho type of celebration down the touchline. Rossendale played their part in what was a fantastic spectacle, played with the right spirit, 2 good footballing teams. Semi – finals it is then. To be played 14th March at Clayton Playing fields. WELL DONE !!! Final score : won 3 - 2 Scorers : Jimmy, George, Lucas Man of match : Jake – didn’t put a foot wrong. Well done.
