NCMS Softball Practice Expectations
1. Be Here
a. Missed practices are excused for family emergencies, school (tutoring or
make-up work with the teacher), sickness, and appointments.
b. Coaches are to be notified in person, phone call, or email prior to missing.
c. Unexcused absences will result in athlete’s forfeiture of opportunity to
participate in the next game.
2. Be On Time
a. We are dismissed from school at 3:00 and should change and be on the
field no later than 3:15. We will start our stretching and warm-up at 3:15.
b. When you report to the field, it must be set-up and ready to start prior to
starting the stretching routine.
c. Athletes are to be picked up on time. Athletes who are picked up more
than 15 minutes late will receive a warning. The second occurrence will
result in forfeiture of playing time and/or dismissal from the team.
3. Be Prepared and Dressed Properly
a. You must come to practice with cleats, glove, and gym attire. Pants are
recommended, but not required for practices. Tennis shoes are necessary
in case of indoor practices and/or inclement weather
4. Be Coachable
a. Always have a positive attitude.
b. Follow all the rules.
c. Have an “I Can!” mentality.
d. Be prepared to fail, and to use that failure to grow.
NCMS Softball Practice and Game Rules
1. Cell Phones
a. Cell phones are not allowed to be used on the softball field during practice
or games. You may store the phones in your bags to use after the
game/practice, but may not be used during either event.
b. Athletes may use cell phones after practice or in case of emergencies.
c. Athletes caught using cell phones during inappropriate times continuously
will forfeit their opportunities to participate in games.
2. Away Games
a. All athletes will ride the bus to the games, unless otherwise discussed with
parents, coaches, and administration.
b. Athletes will be required to ride the bus home from away games, unless
their parents sign them out.
c. In order for an athlete to ride home with another set of parents from an
away game, athlete must bring a note to the coach the morning or day
before the game. It needs to be approved and verified by the coach prior
to leaving for the game.
3. Dug-Out Protocol
a. All bats and helmets should be kept in appropriate places while they are
not in use.
b. There will be a minimum of two buckets set out before each game.
c. Cell phones and parents are not allowed in the dugout unless permission is
given prior to by the coach or in case of an emergency. Please try to bring
waters and Gatorade to the athletes prior to the game starting.
4. Duties
a. Athletes will be assigned specific duties for games and practices. These
are expected to be completed prior to leaving.
b. Practice duties include: putting out bases, setting up tees, ball buckets set
outside the dugout, dugouts swept, rake the infield after practice
c. Game Day duties: bases should be spray painted and set-up, setting up
tees, two buckets of balls, dugouts swept, games balls ready, and rake the
infield after game.
d. Athletes will not be dismissed until the duties have been competed and
inspected.
5. Fundraising
a. All athletes are expected to participate with the goal of raising $50 or
more to support the New Century program.
b. For the fundraiser, checks may be written, but should be made payable to
New Century Middle School (NCMS).
c. This year, we will be selling Little Caesar’s Pizza Kits. Please refer to the
fundraising kit packet. Any questions, please feel free to email

uphold the parental portion of these and help my student-athlete to hold her end.
