ETIHAD GAA WORLD GAMES – FAQ’S 1. Team Registration: Teams Coordinator to forward their team lists along with proof of residency 2 weeks prior to the Games (July 28th). Registration/changes to Team Lists to be confirmed by the Liaison person Monday 08th August in UCD. Registration will take place between 10.00am-12.00pm in the Etihad Airways GAA World Games Tent. Teams should only send 1 rep- Team Liaison Officer to register their team at the official registration tent. However, as kit/gear will be given out following registration teams should bring some players with them to assist with the transport of their gear back to their accommodation. Teams will be asked to register in order according to their unit at the tent. Please follow signage as to what registration desk you will be registering your team at. Any relevant information/O’Neills Kit Bags to be distributed to the Liaison person at Registration. 2. Travel Grants: Travel Grants will be paid to the County Board or Province when team registrations have been confirmed. 3. Laundry Services in UCD: Laundry services will be available at UCD at the accommodation for a small charge. 1 4. Equipment for Matches and/or Training: GAA will supply all match equipment i.e. Footballs and Sliotars and will organise a quantity of Hurleys as back up for matches. Teams to supply their own: Hurley’s, Helmets, Football Boots, Training gear and Mouth Guards. 5. Physios: GAA have arranged for Physios on site at the Etihad Airways GAA World Games 2016 tented village in UCD. Please note, there will be no masseurs available. 6. Training Pitches: Should teams require a facility to conduct training sessions on or to organise challenge games. Please contact Jimmy O’ Dwyer ([email protected]) who will supply a list of Dublin based clubs contact details. These clubs should be contacted directly to make arrangements. 7. Water/hydration: GAA to supply water for all Teams for all matches. 8. First Aid: Adequate First Aid/Paramedics and Medical Tent will be on site. 9. Global Games Development Forum: The Global Games Development Forum will take place in the Fitzgerald Debating Chamber, UCD on Monday 8th August from 2.30-4.30pm. Please see the attached information sheet in relation to Games Development Forum and how you can attend the Forum. 2 10. World Games Concert: The Etihad Airways GAA World Games Series Cultural Concert will take place on Sunday 7th August in The Helix, DCU, Dublin 9. Doors will open at 7.30pm with the concert itself commencing at 8.30pm. The concert will feature Damien Dempsey, Lisa Lambe, Red Hurley, The Artane Band, Japanese Taiko Drummers, traditional Irish musician and dancers. World Games Finals Croke Park: The Etihad Airways GAA World Games 2016 cup finals will be place at Croke Park on Friday 12th August. Eight finals are down to be decided with games commencing at 11.00am at GAA Headquarters. Teams participating in the finals will receive further information closer to the time. 12. Etihad Airways GAA World Games 2016 Closing Banquet: The Etihad Airways GAA World Games 2016 Closing Banquet will take place on Friday 12th August in Croke Park commencing at 6.15pm. The banquet is open to players, officials, partners, family & friends to attend. Tickets for the closing banquet are now available to purchase at €37.50 on https://eventgen.ie/etihadairwaysgaaworldgames2016closingbanquet. Dress code for the event is smart casual. 13. World Games website & social media: The World Games 2016 webpage is now operational at www.gaa.ie/worldgames/. The website contains fixtures information, tournament schedule, teams competing. Articles on each unit in lead up to games will also be here. Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GAAWorldGames/. Contains links to articles on website. Images and stories on build up to event. Competitions such as jersey launches and GAAGO offers. Will contain fixtures also in picture format of groups in lead up to event. Allows players to message organisers if any questions remain also. Twitter: @GAAworldgames. Links to articles on website. Photos of event build up and communication with teams. Promotion of sponsors links to event and O'Neill's gear launches etc. Daily updates as we get closer to event on any news that comes out. 3 15. Transport provision- UCD to Croke Park and vice versa. Public transport from UCD to City Centre: UCD is well served by Dublin Bus and various other transport links. For transport options to and from UCD please see http://www.ucd.ie/gettingtoucd.htm. Please note there is no Dublin Bike's station located on the UCD Campus. The only transport that will be provided to teams participating in the Etihad Airways GAA World Games 2016 will be following the Concert in The Helix, DCU. Buses will be provided to transport teams back to their accommodation in UCD following the event. A shuttle bus service will operate from UCD on the day of the grand finals in Croke Park on Friday 12th August 2016 to transport teams to Croke Park to participate in or spectate at the finals. Further information will be provided to teams during the week of the event on the shuttle bus service. 16. World Games Opening Ceremony Information: The Etihad Airways GAA World Games 2016 opening ceremony will take place at half time in the All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship semi-final on Sunday 7th August in Croke Park. Teams participating in the World Games have had the opportunity to nominate two rep's to represent your team at the opening ceremony and be presented to the crowd on the day. GAA Ticketing have also made provision to supply teams with free tickets to the All Ireland Hurling Semi-Final on Sunday 7th August to attend the game. Please see attached opening ceremony schedule for teams/officials/rep’s participating in the opening ceremony in Croke Park. 17. Supermarkets: Please note as there are no major supermarket chains located on the UCD Campus. However there is a Centra mini- supermarket located on campus, Tesco Supermarket in the Merrion Shopping Centre is a 20 min walk from UCD Campus to the Merrion Road, Dublin Bus 145 to Stillorgan stops at the Stillorgan Shopping Centre which includes a Tesco Supermarket and numerous other shops and food outlets. There is also a Spar mini-supermarket at the bottom of Bird Avenue, Clonskeagh. 4 18. Bank/ATM's: There are a number of bank branches located within & outside the UCD Campus. AIB have a banking branch & ATM's on campus located throughout the campus. While Bank of Ireland have a branch & ATM located next to Montrose Student Accommodation, on the N11 Stillorgan dual carriage way across from the N11 entrance to UCD. 20. UCD Catering: Please note accommodation in UCD are not self-catering. Should team’s staying in UCD on campus accommodation require catering please contact Angelene McBride to confirm requirements as soon as possible. The Clubhouse Bar & Restaurant adjacent to the UCD Student Centre will be open each evening of the World Games to provide dinner options to teams and spectators attending the World Games. 21.
