Updates
Overall Operations:





A slow start to the season due mainly to the weather up to mid-May.
From mid-May onwards participation from both the membership and green fee
play has rebounded back to normal trends.
Currently on-track for the remainder of the summer operations to meet
expectations set out and hopefully, with an extended fall operations, we can make
up what was lost in the spring.
GGGC appreciate members support bringing out guests to play GGGC.
2017 Membership Base is 265
Queens Ditch:


Majority of work is now complete.
o Contractor will come back in mid-August to deal with any deficiencies.
o All ponds will be kept dry until the infrastructure is completed, then filled.
o For your safety please obey signs posted and stay away from the banks as
they are unstable under foot.
o The temporary road across the fairway will be removed and the area will
be top dressed and seeded.
o Two fountains, one at either end of the pond, will be installed.
o In total there will be 3 ponds, 1 on-site and 2 off-site that will act as a
retention/detention facility for storm water. Water shortage will be
negated as the golf course the pond will also supply the irrigation system.
Once again we thank you for your patience while the pond is being constructed.
Maintenance Update:




Kudos to Wayne and his staff for getting the course in optimal playing condition
for the summer months.
Challenging spring due to the weather to get it to the condition it is today for
everyone to enjoy.
Working diligently grooming the bunkers and adding sand where needed.
Maintenance practices for the month are now posted on the calendar board in
front of the Proshop.

Housekeeping from the Month
o Pls obey signs posted noticing power carts ignoring the cart paths around
tees and greens.
o When finished using the sand and seed bottle pls return to station so they
can be re-filled for others to use.
o Still noticing shortage of driving range baskets for those that like to keep
them in there private carts or vehicles pls return baskets after use so there
are plenty of baskets for others to use.
o I know its old repeat “Please Repair Your Ball Marks”
Golf Course:




The subject of course marshal was brought forward for discussion and generally
agreed that the pace of play is adequate and does not warrant marshalling the golf
course. GGGC recognizing there will be slower than normal days but emphasizes
exercising a little more patience with fellow members and guests of the club.
The concession cart is scheduled for Thursdays and Saturdays, for non-scheduled
service the concession cart will be out when traffic warrants it. Daily specials will
be posted for your pre-game and post-game snacks or beverages.
The new Early Bird (EB) structure for booking your tee times rather than first
come first serve is working well for both the golf course and the frequent users of
EB play. Direct booking to the tee sheet will replace the traditional balloting
system for booking your tee time, more to follow.

Pro Shop
Upcoming Events
o Monday June 26th marks the day that Bill, Brian, Pieter and Terran will be
participating in dawn to dusk PGA of BC Golfathon for ALS. Donations can be
made in the golf shop until mid. July or at www.golfathonforals.com.
o On July 4th Glacier Greens will be host our annual Pro-Am. Proceeds from this
event go to junior golf on the North Island. If you would like to play in the event
please contact the golf shop for details.
o July 15th and 16th are the dates for the Club Championships this year. Richard
Martin will be sending out a poster with all the information in the coming weeks.
General Information
o Just a reminder that Glacier Greens Golf shop matches Golf Town pricing on all
current golf clubs.
Junior Programs
o Brian will be starting another round of junior lessons in July 7. If you are
interested in more information for your children or grandchildren you can find the

2017 Glacier Greens Club Championship
Stoke Play Competition governed by the 2016 RCGA Rules of Golf and the 2016-2017
RCGA Decisions on the Rules of Golf and where applicable, by the following Conditions
and Local Rules.
Pace of Play – Keep up with the group in front of you. Maximum times allotted for
Glacier Greens Golf Course is 4 hours and 20 minutes.
1. Out of Bounds (OB) Rule 27: OB is defined by white stakes, including the driving
range and all boundary fences. The ball is OB when ALL of it is out of bounds.
2. Water Hazards Rule 26: These are marked with red or yellow stakes, which are
movable obstructions (i.e. no penalty). On holes #2, #7 and #17, the entire area beyond
the red stakes is deemed to be part of the hazard.
3. Stones in bunkers Rule 24-1: Stones in bunkers are deemed movable obstructions and
may be removed without penalty.
4. Staked trees: All players are required to take swing and stance relief from newly
planted trees (identified by a combination of stakes, fencing and/or flagging ribbons.
There is NO relief for line of sight.
5. Distance Measuring Rule 14-3/0.5: Distance measuring devices may be used during
play if distance is the only information available from the device (Rule 14-3/0.5).
6. Embedded Ball Rule 25-2: Through the green, a ball embedded in its own pitch mark
in the ground, other than in sand, may be lifted and cleaned without penalty and dropped
as near as possible to where it lay but not nearer the hole and without penalty.
7. Holes #13, #14 and #16, local rule: Hole #13, #14 and #16 where it is marked by a
orange fence or white line will be treated as Ground under Repair (GUR). A player
whose ball has entered the GUR must estimate at which point the ball crossed the fence
or white line and then take free relief (one club length) from that point or use the closest
drop zone on hole #13 when in GUR. In addition, the temporary cross road on #14
fairway has also been marked as GUR.
8. The ball will be played down. You will, of course, still get relief if the ball lies in its
own pitch mark anywhere outside a hazard.
9. Ball accidentally moved on putting green. Rule 18-2, 18-3 & 20-1 When a player’s
ball lies on the putting green, there is no penalty if the ball or ball marker is accidentally
moved by the players, his partner, his opponent, or any of their caddies or when a
player’s ball lies on the putting green, there is no penalty if the ball or ball-marker is
accidentally moved by the players, his partner, his opponent, or any of their caddies or
equipment. The moved ball or ball-marker must be replaced. This Local Rule applies
only when a player’s ball or ball-markers lies on the putting green and any movement is
accidental.
10. If in doubt about a rules situation, play a second ball. Under Rule 3-3 you should
announce which ball you prefer to count should the rules allow it, complete the hole with
both balls, and seek out a ruling immediately upon completion of your round and before
signing your card. ANY rules dispute should be brought to the attention of the
tournament organiser before the completion of the competition.

Advisory Committee Chair Closing Comments:
As you can see from this report Glacier Greens Golf Course is doing extremely well
considering the poor weather to start this year’s season. I want to take this opportunity to
recognize Paul Dashkewytch, Bill Kelly and Ben Gill for their ongoing efforts and
continued commitment to improving Glacier Greens and its services. Paul and his team
have an extremely challenging job keeping the golf course financially viable while
providing the best possible services and these points should never be lost on anyone.
They don’t always get the recognition they deserve and are sometimes underappreciated
for all they do, I would encourage you to take the time to thank them personally when
you get a chance. I would be remiss if I did not send a huge shout out to Wayne and the
maintenance staff for the amazing condition of the golf course. Thanks to the inputs
received by you, the membership, in the spring survey we have been able to address and
positively affect the Early Bird tee sheet, the Maintenance Plan and yes even the dreaded
bunkers. Your input and your suggestions as members are a vital part of our continued
efforts in making this the best golf course it can be. It’s sometimes easier to criticize
and/or complain but if one were to take the time to reflect one would quickly see the
tremendous positive attributes of this golf course and its staff. It’s important to
understand that as members our comments about our course can work for us or work
against us. Let’s do our best to positively influence our guests experience here at the
course which may result in future memberships. We are our greatest marketing asset so
let’s try to keep it positive and we may just reap the benefits. I believe our course has
never looked better and we as Glacier Green Members should be grateful and proud to be
part of such a great facility. Let’s hope the next few months bring lots of sunshine, fair
winds and an increase in some needed revenue. Lastly, a sincere thank you to the
volunteers and my Advisory Committee for their amazing support which makes my job
as your Chair an easy one.
