PRESIDENT’S REPORT
It is my pleasure to present this report as a reflection of the 2008/09 cricket season
for our Club.
Once again Springwood Cricket Club had a very successful season in both the
Senior and Junior levels. Whilst we were not successful in winning a Senior
premiership, 3 of our 6 Senior teams made it to the semi finals with the 1st and 3rd
grade teams defeated in the Final. The debacle that surrounded the 3rd grade Final
was a cross between Laurel & Hardy and the Marx Brothers!! What is most
important to note about our Senior Club is that there was a 20% decline in the
overall numbers across the district for senior teams yet, we were able to increase
our numbers with an additional team from the previous season. All in all, it was a
good year for some and a tougher year for others but there is a great vibrancy
within our senior club.
The juniors were again strong with Springwood securing 2 premierships. The
Under 12 ( 1 ) team defended their premiership win from last season whilst the
Under 10 ( Tigers ) went through the competition undefeated, a mighty effort!!
The Under 16 ( 2 ) team made it to the semis whilst all of our other junior teams
were very competitive. On behalf of the Committee I would like to thank everyone
from the Coaches and Managers to the Parents and most importantly to the young
people who represent this Club each and every week- end.
Your Committee was again a pillar of administrative capacity. This is a very good
group of people who are inherently dedicated to ensuring that Springwood Cricket
Club remains viable in a highly competitive sporting environment. I would
personally like to thank all of the members of the Committee for their selfless
commitment to this great Club. Also, I would like to acknowledge and thank the
various sponsors of the club for their continued support.
In closing my report I wish to advise that after some 12 years as the President of
this Club I will not be seeking nomination to the position next season. Whilst this is
not an easy decision it really is time to step aside. This Club does need a fresh
face with new ideas to take this next generation of cricketers forward. I am very
proud to have served this Club for such a long time and I wish everyone
associated with our Club the very best of what every direction their future takes
them.

JUNIOR PERPETUAL TROPHY WINNERS
JUNIOR CRICKETER OF THE YEAR:
Oliver Summerfield-Ryan
This season’s Junior cricketer of the year had a great season, leading his side to a berth in the
semi final. Whether it was batting, bowling or fielding, Oliver performed with distinction. He scored
175 runs at an average of 22, took 28 wickets at 6.25 with the ball and was responsible for taking
6 catches. His highlight of the year was taking 7 for 20 off 13 overs in the Semi-Final.
MOST PROMISING JUNIOR CRICKETER:
Daniel Sparkes
Daniel had a tremendous season in the U12-1s’, after coming up from division 2 the previous
season. His batting netted him 256 runs at an average of 28.44, including a highest score of 42
not out. His safe hands held 2 catches and he took 6 wickets at 20.67.
PAUSEY SHIELD:
(Junior Clubman of the Year)
Sam Tucker
The Pausey Shield for Junior Clubman of the Year is not awarded for superb ability on the field,
though Sam did have a decent season both with bat and ball. What caught the attention of
everyone in the club was the way Sam embodied the spirit of cricket that exists in our club. His
sportsmanship was indicative of the way we all would like to play cricket, and see cricket played.
His good performances on the field were no more important than the way he went about his
‘work’. Sam also helped out with the Milo Have-a-Go program this season, as well as supporting
the club at it’s annual Back to Springwood Day and supported the senior grades by being at
Lomatia whenever he could to watch the senior grades go round.

SPRINGWOOD
TIGERS
MILO HAVE-A-GO CRICKET 2008-2009
. Another year over and another successful season for our Milo Have-A-Go cricketers at Springwood
Cricket Club. The numbers remained similar to last season with almost 70 registrations. It was fantastic to
again see an increased number of girls taking up cricket. The aim of this program is to introduce young
children to cricket, and teach them some basic skills. The program ran over 10 weeks, however due to
constant ran, this went after the Christmas break and well into the new year. The program ran for children
aged 4 to 8 years old to teach them skills of cricket, but at the same time find enjoyment from the game.
Special thanks must go to Scott Filmer, Luke O’Carrigan, Jono Lees, Hamish Lees, Matthew Poynting, Sam
Tucker, Michael Sparkes and Daniel Sparkes & James Edge. All these boys/men play in differing teams for
Springwood and were a magnificent help week in and week out in running this program smoothly.
The program isn't about finding the champions of tomorrow, it’s to help the children learn the basics of
cricket and have some fun. Although from some of the talent in this year's crop, the future of
Australian cricket is looking good.
Each week the children showed up with smiles on their faces and were ready for some fun, and by the end it
was great to see the improvement from all the participants.
Last but not least I would like to thank all the parents for bringing the kids along and helping out on Friday
afternoons. I hope to see everyone back again for another successful year.

UNDER 9
As I look back on the 2008/09 season, I’m amazed at the amount of improvement
displayed by all 10 boys in the side. We started the year with 8 out of the 10 boys playing
for the first time and for many needed to start with the basics. As a team however, we
had our share of success throughout the season and came home with a wet sail having
two wins back to back in our last two matches giving our large contingent of fans
something to savour as we look forward to next year and the prospect of what these
talented young cricketers might do.
On top of all that, the boys really gelled as a side and were as much mates as a team. All
this made my role both easy and enjoyable. I’m sure the boys enjoyed the season as
much as I did. Individually, the boys performed as followed:
Henry Cox
Henry’s season was nothing short of spectacular, with him excelling at everything he put
his hands to – be it batting bowling or wicket-keeping, culminating in a hat-trick
performance during the year. Well done champ – a fantastic year.
Jack Crouch
Being Jack’s first season didn’t seem to worry him with Jack displaying a talent for all
parts of the game as if he’d been playing for years. Jack is a big scorer of runs, a good
fielder and a talented bowler, being able to bowl fast or, as he showed at the end of the
season, being able to bowl leg spin, with a fantastic ‘wrong-un’. Great season Jack!!
Edward Davies
‘Neddy’ was our little pocket rocket giving 110% always. Eddie’s improvement throughout
the year was fantastic with both batting, bowling and fielding. Good on ya, Neddy.
Bailey Ellis
Bailey’s improvement over the season was fantastic, from someone who struggled to
bowl at the start of the year to our last game and super straight bowling that helped us
win our last game. Great season Bailey!
Cameron Fenner
Cameron was the thinking man for the U9s with so much concentration going into every
facet of his game. The improvement over the year was fantastic in both batting and
bowling. When all this concentration pays off – and it will, Cam is a super star in the
making!
John Manzie
Johnnie had a big season with the ball and the bat taking several wickets at critical
moments for us in our early matches. Johnnie also gets right behind the ball when he bats
which will really stand him in good stead for the future years. Well done mate – great
year!
7
Ben McDowell
Mr Enthusiasm is the way Ben plays all his cricket, from his batting to his bowling to his
fielding. So enthusiastic is Ben that he’d often set off for a run (and make it) even when
one didn’t exist. Well Done Ben, fantastic year!
Ben Paul
One of my stand-out cricketers this year. This was Ben’s first year and I can’t remember a
young cricketer to have so much love for every part of the game. From his many
smashing pull shots for four, to his wicket-keeping, Ben lapped up everything including a
spectacular diving catch to complete a hat-trick for Henry Cox. Great Season, Ben!!!
Henry Paul
With a constant smile on his face, Henry improved out of sight during the season. Whilst
not a big hitter, Henry always got behind the ball, sometimes against some real fast
bowling. The highlight for Henry was claiming his first wicket in our last match of the
season. Well done Henry!
Joshua Williams
Josh had a great year taking a couple of wickets and making some good runs with the bat
including some fantastic pull shots for four. Josh’s technique with the bat is fantastic,
being able to score when its needed or block out the good balls. Josh also ‘perfected’ the
slide stop in the field which he used well on a couple of occasions to save four runs. Top
season Josh, fantastic!!
Well done everyone and thanks for the efforts. Also, thanks to the parents who all turned
up and helped me with the scoring, umpiring, organising etc. Finally, a HUGE thank you
to my wife Michelle for managing the team this year and keeping me organised (as she
always does!!). It was really enjoyable and I look forward to seeing you all next season.

UNDER 10 TIGERS
Without any doubt, the 2008/09 Springwood U10 Tigers was a team of many young highly
talented cricketers with consistent depth in all departments. Testament to the talent
amongst the boys was the fact that 7 members of the team of 12 were playing above their
age group, and 1 boy playing competition cricket for the first time.
Having coached most of these boys through U8’s, my job was made easier from training
day 1 where it mostly became a task of honing their individual skills.
Unlike seasons prior, were the boys had mixed success, this year they flayed all comers
with ease in most cases and finished the season with “undefeated” status.
As their coach, I felt much satisfaction and pride in watching everyone advance
significantly within the many skill sets that the game of cricket requires. On top of that, our
team of little champions always displayed exemplary behaviour and good spirit toward
their opposition.
The Mums and Dad’s should all be commended for the courtesy and manners that they
have obviously instilled within the raising of these boys. They are all great kids.
A quick testament to the boy’s individual season’s follow:Lachlan Bignall
Always sporting a grin the size of the Luna Park entrance, Lachlan had a great second
season of cricket. With the willow, he was always good for getting a hand full of runs but
with the ball was where he excelled. He took 11wickets at an average of 7, and was
always on his toes in the field taking 2 catches and assisting in a run out. A great effort by
a lovely kid.
Ryan Mulvaney
AKA Rhino. Also partaking in his second season, Ryan plays well beyond his age. When
bowling, he picked up 6 wickets and was one of our best ground fielders. However
Rhino’s true talent is his batting. He possesses all the shots in his arsenal, scoring 91,
averaged 18 and was a pleasure to watch his work at the crease. I look forward to
watching Ryan’s cricket develop over the next few seasons which will see him become
one of the best around.
Jayson Orton
Jayson enjoyed a very successful season both with the bat and the ball. Using his tall
physique to advantage he has a great batting technique with strong drives and pull shots.
With the ball, he can also extract extra bounce and carry that afforded him 12 wickets at
an average of 6.58.With the willow was his highlight scoring 165 runs at an average of 55.
A massive improvement from where he was at last season. A great result for a quiet
achiever.
10
William Brazier
Bill’s second season saw him become one of the best improvers of the team. Most
notable of the improvement was his bowling. By season’s end Bill possessed a slippery
slinging bowling action that saw him capture 5 wickets and many near misses. With the
bat he often displayed text book defence, judged and called runs well, and nobody got
Bill’s wicket easily. Well done by an exceptional “team player”!
Fionn Wilkinson
The pocket rocket! I really enjoyed coaching Fionn. Playing his maiden season of cricket,
Fionn’s abilities saw him impress from the first game. With the bat he was no slouch
always holding up an end and scoring a hand full of runs. When Bowling he has a fast
flowing action which saw him claim 9 wickets, and in the field he was like lightning across
the park with a great throw and safe hands. A good season Fionn!
Callan Sutcliffe
Callan’s cricket second was cut short with his family moving to Tasmania. In the time he
was at Springwood his excellent bowling action was rewarded with 5 wickets, and he
scored 11 runs at an average nearing 3. As a fielder he featured often and displayed a
good safe ground fielding technique. Callan will develop into a good bowler with his
flowing effortless rhythm.
Luke Hodges
Luke is a keen and enthusiastic young cricketer who always wants to be involved. Hence,
when asked to keep wicket he didn’t hesitate, and couldn’t get his own keeping gear fast
enough. In his role, he featured in 4 run outs and took 5 catches. With the willow, he
worked hard and scored 33 runs at an average of 5.5. As a confident seasoned cricketer,
he was always chirpy in the field and a great team player. Well done big fella!
Ryan Parlato
AKA “Chook”. Playing his second season of cricket, Chook was another one of the big
improvers. He had a good year all round scoring 100 runs at an average of 20, he took 4
wickets with the ball, took 5 catches and figured in 6 run out dismissals with his fast, flat
and accurate throw. Chook was a joy to coach and watch improve. A team highlight of the
year was when he scored his 100th run bringing a massive cheer from all his team mates
and parents in unison. Good on ya Chooka!
James Churchill
James was another quiet achiever this season. He worked hard to correct his bowling
action which saw him take 6 wickets at an average of 11, and scoring 79 runs at an
average 15.8. With a bit more enthusiasm with his running James will go on to score big
innings as he gets older. James took 2 catches and figured in 2 run out dismissals too.
Well done mate!
Hamish Rogers
Mr intense! Hamish does nothing by halves. Passionate as always, Hamish punches well
above his weight. Without a doubt from anyone, he is the best judge of a run, and a
whippet between the wickets often tallying up many runs for his batting partners. Off his
own bat he scored 59 runs at an average nearing 10. With the ball, he has a good fast
and accurate delivery that saw him deliver many maidens and acquire 7 wickets at an
11
average of 12. At the ripe old age of 8 & playing his third season of U10’s Hamish
thoroughly deserves the teams victory of which he played a vital role in achieving.
Jacob Patterson
What a season Jake. Displaying the most determined attitude to succeed, Jake scored
141 runs at an average of 47 and took 16 wickets at an average of 3. Jake is also another
3rd year U10 veteran and his wonderful achievements statistically show how he has
“come of age”. With his passion and ability to listen, I have no doubt that Jacob will go on
to bigger and better things.
Douglas Rogers
Doug was the team’s leader. Being another one of the 3 year U10 veterans, he used all
his experience in setting the field, geeing up the troops and occasionally pulling off a
personal performance to secure a victory for the team. He too had a great year scoring 92
runs at an average of 18.4, and bowled with unequalled pace throughout the entire
competition. This pace actually cost him wickets with many catches being dropped in the
slips but regardless he picked up 10 wickets at an average of 7.8. He also took 5 catches
and figured in 2 run out dismissals. A great effort Champ!
Well done everyone and thanks for the efforts. I will always cherish this season in my
memory. Ewan Rogers should also be thanked for filling in when we were short.
Best regards,
Matt Rogers

UNDER 10 DRAGONS
Getting out on the field with the U/10 Dragons this past summer was the highlight of
each week for me as a parent and coach. We had five first season cricketers in our
squad of eleven and all of the team turned up at training and the games with real passion
and excitement for cricket.
Our season got off to a great start with a win. The highlight being Henry Davies
retiring not out (27) in his first ever cricket match! It turned out to be one of only four
victories throughout the season but amongst those wins and our twelve losses, there
were some other great performances.
Henry topped our runs aggregate with 122 and made three direct hit run-outs.
James Morgan, also in his first year, improved throughout. His season finishing proudly
with a solid seven over batting effort.
Tristan Muralitharan batted for around fifteen overs on three occasions. Jared Loydell
had figures of 2/6 and 11 n.o. to win a match. Jared also developed good pace with a
strong bowling action. Ryan Hackney totalled 100 runs with the bat and 17 wickets
including 3/9 off 4 and 3/2 off 2 to finish top in the association. Owen Gordon, in his first
season, developed into a top-class wicket-keeper and played a great innings of 27 n.o. in
a solid opening partnership of 75 runs in 26 overs with Ben Crouch (16).Ben also took 15
wickets for the season including 2/0 off 3 and 2/11 off 5.
Oscar Cook concentrated hard on his bowling action and ended up bowling some good
overs by seasons’ end. Hayden Kilner ended up with four wickets and was our most
intense fielder. He is ready for the ball EVERY delivery. You are great to watch in the field
Hayden. Luke Porter batted for 19 overs on one occasion to be 1 n.o. and , on another,
an ENTIRE INNINGS of 30 overs for 5 n.o. Luke was another first-timer and so was Liam
Kimmings. Liam improved out of sight during the season eventually getting his first wicket
in rd.15 Bowling out the Springwood Tigers’ captain.
I feel that all of our team will be back on the cricket pitch again in the years ahead.
Many thanks to all the Mums and Dads - especially Craig Loydell for doing the bulk of the
scoring.
I would also like to thank the boys from the U/10 Tigers who filled in throughout the
season when we were short on numbers and the boys from the Springwood U/9’s team
who also helped out on numerous occasions.
Well done boys and a big thanks to you all from me for making the summer so
memorable for the fun we had out on the field together.
Best regards,
Peter Crouch

UNDER 12-1
The Under 12’s had a great season. They finished as Premiers for the second year
running.
At the start of the season the Springwood team had a mix of new players and more
experienced cricketers. The team had 14 members in total and this proved a real
challenge. The boys did not get the chance to bat or bowl as much as the players
in the other teams. Two of the team also had to stand down from the finals as well.
The competition was very fierce and even all year. The boys had their ups and
downs. At the season end the team had finished third. In the semi final and the
grand final it was their overall commitment, teamwork and fielding discipline that
eventually saw them through.
Thanks to the parents for their contribution during the year and a special thanks to
those who scored and helped out at training.
Nathan Brokman was again the team’s fielding wizard. He took 8 catches in the
season. Nathan’s best bowling figures were 1 for 8 and took 2 wickets in the
season. Nathan scored 47 runs with a high score of 15.
Joel Carter made 51 runs this season and took 2 wickets. Joel always gave 100%
when batting. His bowling improved toward the end of the season with a tight and
economical action.
Isaac Condie was the demon bowler of the division. His best figures were 3 for 4
and over 20% of his overs were maidens! He took 9 wickets in total. Isaac played a
very straight bat and scored 78 runs in the season with a high score of 26.
Joshua Lambert continued to develop his leg spin through the season. His
performance in the grand final was awesome. He scored 29 runs and high scored
with 16. His best figures were 4 for 5 and he took 11 wickets in the season.
James Newton was the captain this season. He scored 291 runs with a high score
of 55, and an average of 36. James was also our secret strike bowler – feared by
many teams! He took 11 wickets with the best being 3 for 23. He also wicket kept
with 1 stumping and 10 catches in total.
Jeremy Newton enthusiasm for cricket is infectious. Though playing with boys a
couple of years older he held his own. He scored 53 runs and his best bowling was
1 for 3. He took 5 wickets in the season. His stoic stand in the semi final saved the
team’s bacon!
15
Will Philips continued his baffling left arm swingers this year. He took 8 wickets
and his best was 2 for 19. Will had a very safe pair of hands and took 5 catches.
He scored 71 runs in the season.
Connor New took 11 wickets and his best figures were saved for the grand final at
3 for 18. Connor’s loopy spin fooled many of the division’s best batsmen. He
scored 41 runs and high scored at 15. Connor loves his cricket and was always
there with a “thanks” after training and the game. Connor was the other stoic tail
ender in the semi!
Dan Manning was new to the team this year. He scored 7 runs. Dan’s bowling
improved over the year and in one game bowled 4 overs for 1 wicket and only 14
runs.
Pat Maloney was another new member to the team. His bowling really improved
over the year and he had a devastating 3 for 16 against the top team in one game.
He took 7 wickets in the year. Pat worked hard on his batting and scored 14 runs
in the season.
Matthew Hunt was new to the team this year and was also playing up a year. He
took 9 wickets and his best was 3 for 10. At times his bowling was deceptive and
just about unplayable. In the semi final he took two blinding catches. Matthew
improved his batting during the year and scored a total of 51 runs and high scored
21.
Cameron Terry was a key part of the team’s bowling attack. His statistics made
him one of the top bowlers in the district and he was playing a year up! He took 15
wickets in the year and his best was 3 for 8. He scored 53 runs in the season with
a high score of 17.
Jamie Winn was the vice captain and passionately contributed in the field. He took
10 wickets in the season and his best was 2 for 4. Jamie batted well in patches
during the year but smashed 87 in one game – finally getting caught on the mid
wicket boundary! This was his high score with 188 runs for the year. Jamie high
scored in the grand final with a valuable 40 for the opening stand. He often had a
stint behind the stumps.
Daniel Sparkes scored 256 runs this season and high scored with 42. He plays a
wonderful straight bat. He took 6 wickets and his best was 2 for 12. 20% of his
overs were maidens and he developed great pace and bounce during the year. His
opening stand of 39 helped lay the foundation for the team’s grand final victory.
Well done boys andLL can we go for a hat-trick of Premierships?

It was a pleasure coaching such a polite and agreeable group of boys, who
all showed great sportsmanship and encouraged their teammates all
season.
With 6 of the boys starting their first season of cricket and half the team
playing a year above their age, the team played competitive cricket with
the boys showing improvement every week.
The result of only two wins does not reflect how competitive this side was
through the season. The boys put themselves into good position to win a
few more games with great bowling and fielding efforts, but unfortunately
runs proved harder to come by.
I can see lots of potential in this side and hope the boys will all return to
build on this season’s cricket.
Thanks to all the parents for your support throughout the season in
particular David, Kevin, Paul and Bill for sharing the scoring.
Thanks to every one for a great season,
Stuart Shepherd
Coach
18
UNDER 13
The season 08/09 saw our team take on new challenges with the promotion
to Division 1. While not making the finals, the team performed very well
against opposition teams that were at times outstanding. As always my
thanks go to the parents who have consistently supported me, and in
particular Libby our Manager. Thanks also to Clinton for helping with the
coaching, and to all those who helped with the scoring.
Pat Rosato was elected Captain of the team and did a great job. He learnt a
great deal about the pressures of captaining and looking after his own game
at the same time. He received our fielding award for his outstanding wicketkeeping, catching and ground fielding.
Aidan Williams was elected Vice Captain and showed throughout the
season he has very significant leadership ability. His batting this year was
fantastic and he was rewarded with the batting award. His fielding continued
to be great and he took a swag of catches while still remaining on his feet!
Luke Lehman continued his form from previous seasons and received the
Coach’s Award for his efforts. He was the team’s top wicket taker and helped
the team out by opening the batting on many occasions.
Brad Conway had a good year with the ball and received the Bowling Award
as a result. Brad is a great team player, and perhaps needs to learn not to
take things too seriously with his own game, and relax while at the crease.
Ben Kearns has a fantastic potential in the game and earned the
Encouragement Award. As with last season, Ben waited until near the end of
the year to show off his real skills. His batting can be very powerful and solid
while his bowling can at times be unplayable.
Jace Cross was as consistent as ever with the bat coming in 2nd in the
averages for the second straight year. He opened the batting on many
occasions and while not always scoring many runs, did his job to take the
shine off the new ball. He helped Pat with the wicket keeping duties and also
bowled a few great off spin deliveries.
19
Jordan Hoy had never placed cricket before and by the end of the season
had improved out of sight. He never gave his wicket away easily and always
seemed to get a few runs and form a partnership. Jordan never stopped
trying.
Connor McClement improved his bowling this year by a long way. He
consistently pitched the ball up and made it hard for the batsman, mainly due
to the bounce he was able to generate. Connor needs to strengthen his
batting, and being left handed he will cause opposition teams a lot of trouble.
Rebecca Munro played her first year of cricket and improved markedly
through the year. Bec’s bowling was steady and she had her best result
close to the end of the season with 3 for 5 and should have had a few more
wickets that day had luck been her way.
Jacob New continued his good form from last season and was one of the
most lethal bowlers in the competition. At times he was unplayable and
should have taken many more wickets throughout the season. His batting
was solid all year and he played some fantastic shots. I’m sure he’ll only
keep improving.
Chris Rea really enjoyed his cricket this season and had his best year yet.
His batting was solid and, while not scoring many runs, occupied the crease
and did not give his wicket away cheaply. He had his moments with the ball,
but when he was ‘on’ he bowled really well.
Luke Smalley had yet another solid year. He was one of our unluckiest
batsman. He would often play a full blooded shot just in the air and somehow
the opposition would manage a miraculous catch. His bowling steadily
improved and when he pitched the ball up at the batsman it was very difficult
to play.
Aodan Wilkinson had a great season. At times his batting was superb and
some of the shots he played had opposition teams in awe. His hand/eye coordination is impressive and some of his shots, particularly his straight
drives, were hit with tremendous power. He needs to work on his
consistency next season.

With six new players to the team and a total of 18 players taking the field it was going to
be a challenging season for the team. There were only a few individual performances
throughout the season which saw the side finishing with a record of 2 wins, 9 losses and
1 drawn match.
My only regret was not being able to attend enough training seasons due to work
commitments which showed in both the team and individual results.
PLAYER PERFORMANCES
Matthew Baines: His first year of cricket started off slowly but his perseverance to
improve in all areas of his game throughout the season was rewarding from a coaches
point of view. With the bat he scored 24 runs @ 3.0 with a H.S of 11. In the field took 6
wickets @ 23.7 Best figures 2/12 and took a catch. (Encouragement Award)
John Brazier: John was always enthusiastic in all areas of his game and continued to
improve his game without a lot of luck. With the bat he scored 3 runs with a H.S of 2. In
the field took 3 wickets @ 27.3 and took a catch. Best figures 1/6
Geordie Fox: Geordie toiled away with the ball and was our unluckiest bowler. His
spinners threatened to take wickets and he impressed with his ability to take the ball away
from the bat at good speed. With the bat he scored 26 runs @ 3.7 with a H.S of 17 and in
the field he took 6 wickets @ 15.28 and 1 catch. Best figures 2/6
Nick Herring: As a first choice keeper, he proved to be very reliable with the gloves
saving a lot of extras in each game. With the bat he scored 78 runs @ 11.1 with a H.S of
34 and took 8 catches. He also took 1 wicket. (Fielding Award)
Alexander Hosking: Only playing 5 games during the season due to a broken arm, his
season started with great promise. With the bat he scored 38 runs @ 9.5 with a H.S of 17
and in the field he took 7 wickets @ 11.1 and 2 catches. Best figures 2/14 (Bowling
Award)
Nathan Hunt: As one of the experienced cricketers in the team, he had a difficult season.
With the bat he scored 127 runs @ 14.1 with a H.S of 57 n.o and in the field he took 9
wickets @ 15.8 and 3 catches. Best figures 3/10 (Batting Award)
Samuel Hunt: As one of the team’s senior members, Samuel had a mixed season but he
always enthusiastically encouraged the team on field. With the bat he scored 108 runs @
9.8 with a H.S 23 and in the field he took 7 wickets @ 33.3 and 1 catch. Best figures 2/19
Gabe Lloyd Woodland: (Capt). Gabe proved to be the invaluable part of the team in the
role of captain leading by example across all facets of the game. With the bat he scored
399 runs @ 44.3 with a H.S of 89 and he took 15 wickets @ 12.9 and his best bowling
was 4/4. (Coaches Award)
21
Giles McLoughlin: Giles would also give 100% to all areas of the game but needs to not
take the game too seriously. With the bat he scored 52 runs @ 5.8 with a H.S of 17 and in
the field he took 2 wickets @ 29.0 and with 2 catches. Best figures 1/8
Ty Parlato: His first season of cricket proved to be a learning one. He improved both his
batting and bowling throughout the season. With the bat he scored 12 runs with H.S of 4
and in the field he took 2 wickets @ 40.5 Best figures 1/12
Daniel Patterson: Daniel used his physique well with a great arm in the field and bowling
with a deceptive pace. With the bat he scored 14 runs @ 2.3 with a H.S of 6. In the field
he took 1 wicket. Best figures 1/10
Samuel Scholtes: Samuel impressed with his selfless attitude and team spirit. With the
bat he scored 8 runs with a H.S of 4 and in the field took 1 wicket @ 50 and 2 catches.
Best figures 1/7
James Smith: James was always enthusiastic with his bowling and improved in his
batting. With the bat he scored 21 runs @ 2.6 with a H.S of 13 and in the field took 4
wickets @ 34.5 and took 5 catches. Best figures 3/32
Ben Skinner: In his first season of cricket, after 2 games, he decided not to continue,
however he scored 15 runs and a catch.
I would also like to thank, Ben Kearns, Rebecca Munro, Aidan Williams and Matthew
Hunt for helping out during the rep season.
SUMMARY
While we didn’t win a great deal of games this season, the statistics proved that the boys’
were unlucky not to win a few of the close games. However, the parents should be proud
as all players displayed excellent sportsmanship throughout the season.
I would like to thank the parents for putting their hand up to score during the season.
Scoring can be a pain but if enough people share the load then it’s not such a big deal.
Finally, I would like to thank Paul Woodland and Ross McLoughlin for their assistance at
the weekly training sessions and coaching the side in my absence.

UNDER 16 DIV 2
The 2008/09 season was a very enjoyable and successful for the Under 16/2 team
is what was their last season of junior cricket. We managed to finish Minor premiers after
the rounds which saw us take on Glenmore Park in the semi-final. Unfortunately we left
our worst batting performance for the Semi which saw us lose by 7 wickets in the 2nd
innings. Whilst we may have lost in semi’s, there some wonderful performances
throughout the season.
Jesse Mitton (Captain) – Jesse lead from the front in every aspect of the game. His stats
may show that he scored 10 runs , took 4 wickets and took 5 catches but his leadership
was second to none. The amount of respect he had from this team just goes to show how
much his leadership played a massive part in the march to the semi-finals.
Oliver Summerfield-Ryan – Oliver has an absolutely stellar season & nearly won us the
semi-final all off his own back by taking match figures of 8 for 33 off 16 overs, an absolute
lesson in fast left arm swing bowling. Oliver’s figures showed him making 175 runs and
taking 28 wickets at a staggering average of 6.25, whilst taking 6 catches in the field.
Calum Williams – Calum had a great season with both bat & ball. Unfortunately come
semi-final time Calum was struck down by injury but showed just how much heart he had
and still played regardless that could barley run. Calum had a strong season with returns
of 174 runs with the bat, 20 wickets at 6.50 and 7 catches.
Daniel Jennings – Daniel’s first season with the club saw him perform magnificently.
Daniel amassed 459 runs at 57.38 with a highest score of 81. He took 14 wickets and
held 1 catch and was major influence on the team in all the disciplines of the game and
was quite a character off the field.
Grant Maguire – Grant was also new to club this season and was a brilliant performer.
Grant showed a lot of promise with the bat but just couldn’t seem to get past the 40’s.
grant was very unlucky with bat, one false shot and someone seemed to either take that
catch or would just nick the bail. Even with this Grant still managed to net 248 runs, take 2
wickets & take 6 catches in the field and behind the wickets which also included a
stumping.
Maclane Mitchell – Maclane was one of the big improvers during the season. Maclane’s
bowling was very accurate and his outswing was a pleasure to watch. By the end of the
season he started to use his bounce and pace very nicely. Maclane managed 59 runs for
the season to go with 18 wickets & 4 catches.
Jason Thrift – Every side needs a keeper and Jason was ours. Jason was very solid with
the bat and started to developed into a very solid lower order bastmen by the end of the
season, especially after getting peppered in the nets with short bowling early in the
season. Jason managed 46 runs for the season to go with 9 catches & 1 stumping behind
the stumps.
24
Joel Smalley – Joel had a good season with both bat & ball. In time Joel will establish
himself as a very solid top-middle order bastmen as his technique is very sound, Joel just
needs to have confidence in his own ability and the runs will flow. As a developing leg
spinner Joel will be very handy in the senior ranks as he has got good accuracy and can
turn the ball a long way when he gets it right. Joel managed 66 runs and took 8 wickets
whilst taking 2 catches in the field.
Drew Barsley - Drew was another new player to the club this season. Drew was by far &
away our best fielder. His athleticism and anticipation made him deadly when the ball
went anywhere near him either in the air or along the ground. Drew was very solid with
bat & ball. He netted 127 runs & took 5 wickets whilst his very safe hands held 2 catches
and was involved in many run outs.
Taylor Gracie – Taylor had a good season with bat & ball and worked extremely hard
every week to try & improve his game. Taylor managed 26 runs for the season but his big
hitting threatened many sides. He was unlucky with his bowling, whilst he didn’t take a
wicket he kept the pressure on for bowlers to take wickets at the other end. He managed
1 catch in the field.
Joseph Hunt – Joseph was a good season but was unlucky throughout the season. His
batting was very solid but luck wasn’t on his side, one false shot and he always seemed
to get out. His batting netted him 22 runs whilst his bowling saw him take 1 wicket but was
unlucky not have more. He took 2 catches in the field.
Mitchell Cawley – Mitch had a solid season and was unlucky not to have scored more
runs. Mitch netted 9 runs but was often left stranded. His technique is solid just needs to
have more confidence in himself and he will score more runs. He took 3 wickets and took
4 catches. He was a very good fielder and was very safe under the high ball and was very
safe when the ball was on the ground.
David Jansen – David had a solid season with the ball and was a little unlucky with the
bat. He managed to get his best ever bowling figures of 5 for 6 to win us a game early in
the season. He only managed 1 run with the bat but was often left stranded at the end of
the innings. His bowling bagged him 6 wickets and in the field he was very solid taking1
catch.
We would like to thank Caroline Summerfield for managing the side throughout the
season, not to mention scoring as well. We would also like to thank Stuart Smalley, Peter
Cawley & Scott Mitton for scoring throughout the season. A big thankyou to Mark Mitchell,
Phil Thrift & Col Williams for helping out with the umpiring duties throughout the season.
We would also like to thank the boys for a great season, not only are they a great bunch
of cricketers, they are a great bunch of young men. It fills us with a great deal of pride
knowing that we have had a part in their development as cricketers and as young men.
We wish the all the very best with their future cricketing careers at whatever level that
may be. Thanks for a great season!!!
