Book Report Assignment #1 You are expected to read a NOVEL that is at least 200 pages long (negotiable depending on student) and does not include pictures. This novel may be read at home and during school time (when time allows). Once you have completed your novel, you will be required to complete a project before the date specified. *** note: There are 3 terms this year in grade 6. We will be doing 3 Book reports (each one with different choices). In those 3 terms, you may only do 1 novel that is based off a movie! Choose carefully *** Important Dates: October 5, 2015: Book Choice Due! You must have your novel chosen, and written down in your teacher’s book, by this date. You have time to change your mind, explore different novels, and find one that is suitable for you. But, when you decide on a novel you must finish it! You cannot change your mind. You can come to your teacher at any time with a novel choice. November 27, 2015: Book report Due! Although you may hand in your book report early (I encourage this), the last day to have your report handed in is this day! No exceptions! You may email your assignment or hand in a physical copy, but it must be in your teacher’s hands by the end of school on this day! Once your project is completed, you may read anything you like! Project Choices: ***You are only required to complete one of these tasks.*** Choice #1: Interview with the teacher! This will be a little of you summarizing the book as well as answering questions the teacher asks you about character, plot, setting, etc. A list of possible questions will be provided upon request of the student. There are a few rules though: You MUST have your novel with you at the time of your interview! No book = no interview = no mark You must book your appointment with Mrs. Valgardson at least 1 week in advance. Appointment times will be during lunch or nutrition break Tuesday-Friday, or during literacy if time allows. YOU start the interview by explaining what you thought of the book and giving a brief summary. The teacher will follow up with questions, but possible questions are given to you. If you cannot answer at least 3 questions confidently, you’ll be asked to continue reading and/or choose a different project. Do NOT leave this until the end!! It will be hard, and I expect you to know details about your book! Choice #2: Book Jacket! For this project, you have to create a title page, reviews, and book summary for the novel. This is great for artistic people as it will allow you to represent the book more visually with a small section of writing. You will present your book jacket to the class and questions may be asked. Choice #3: Movie Trailer! Using an app, or program you’re familiar with, you will create a movie trailer that summarizes (without giving it all away) the main characters, setting, plot and thoughts of the movie! You may use people from the class as characters or you can use friends/family from out of school. Remember, although people may be acting in your trailer, it is your job to give them lines, characterization, acting notes etc. It is NOT their project, it is YOURS! If you choose someone, they need to make sure that they are still able to finish their own independent project. This trailer will be played for the class (or teacher if you want), and questions may be asked. Choice #4: Build the Set! For this project, you will create a diorama, a model and/or a set sketch book that will describe the various settings that your protagonists venture into! For each set drawing, you need to tell me: One or two major events that happened in this place (why is this place important) Give one or two QUOTES from the text that helped you decide how to draw the setting Tell me how the main character(s) felt about this place and why You can write out the explanations of the set, or you can schedule an apt to present it and verbally explain the requirements. In either case there may be additional question. Assessment Choice #1: Interview with the teacher! Category Excellent 3 Basic 2 Lacking 1 Preparation (summary) Prepared and wellrehearsed.
