What is the purpose of the SYEP? • To provide youth with the opportunity to gain life skills training, financial literacy and management, college and career exploration, real life experiences, and networking opportunities through a six week internship while being paid a stipend. What is the goal of the SYEP? • To empower the inhabitants of Forsyth County and promote socioeconomic progress by preparing students for post secondary education and careers by developing their employability skills through a hands on technical training program. Program Expectations Attendance • Required to be in attendance for at least 90% of all scheduled program events/activities. • Interns must sign in and out with their worksite supervisor daily. Attendance • In addition to SYEP standards interns must adhere to the worksite attendance policy. • The worksite supervisor can determine that the intern has demonstrated a pattern of absences/tardies that is disruptive to the work environment and release the intern. • If you believe you cannot commit to the attendance policy please notify us BEFORE departure today. Reporting an Absence If you must be absent.. • Intern must give advanced notice of absence at least 24 hours in advance. If this is not possible… • It is the responsibility of the intern (not the parent) to contact SYEP staff AND worksite supervisor to report absences at least 30 minutes BEFORE the start of the shift. – Contact Ms. Nelson-Thomas or Ms. Loftin-Bell. • If you leave an email: leave intern’s name, date of absence and reasoning • Leaving a message at the front desk of the Urban League is not acceptable. – Contact worksite supervisor second Work Day Schedule • Interns are able to work 18 hrs. per week • Wednesday are reserved for PPDs. – Wednesday PPDs will be assigned, but times are 10am3pm • Interns may work AFTER the scheduled PPDs on Wednesdays. • Interns are allowed at least 1 break for every 4 hours worked. Parent Responsibility • Encouraging appropriate behaviors and responsibility of child(ren) – Remember, we are your child(ren) employers. Use the behavior towards us as you would your own employers. – If there is a problem with the supervisor allow your child to handle the problem independently and/or through us. – Please refrain from interfering. • Help interns identity their strengths, learning styles, interest, talents, skills and needs Timesheets/Stipends Training Day July 5th: Professional Dress July 6th: Interviewing Skills/Communication July 7th: Dress to Impress, its interviewing day !
