This term we continue to explore what it means to have faith. We will think a little about the Bible as a collection of writings, as sacred text and as story. We will focus on several of
the parables of Jesus, and consider what following Jesus’ example might mean for us.
Oral Language – Presentation of inquiries (Persuasive )
Reading - non fiction instructional reading elated to the Social Science theme. Focus on: clarification, understanding. inferential thinking, note taking, making connections,
summarising
fiction independent reading – Novel Study: Focus on finding, selecting and retrieving information, reading for meaning, making links between ideas, inferential thinking.
Writing – Persuasive writing
Spelling programme
Grammar to Go.

Recreational reading: At home, weekly book log.

Maths
The power of educating girls to change lives in a global context is our focus. We will be looking at how educating girls can change societies. Children’s Human Rights will be
considered. Every girl has the right to go to school and the right to reach her full potential. We have a special emphasis on the skills involved in communicating information.
Year 8 will engage with the concept of Digital Media production. They will explore Digital media, look at the types and appropriateness of each and determine approaches to gather
and create with this media. The culmination of this learning will result in a digital publication where all classes will combine their self authored media into and single e-pub that will
be distributed electronically.
Science
French
Health and PE
In term 3 the focus for year 8 science will be Earth Sciences and will include a study of plate tectonics, volcanoes and earthquakes (cause and effect) as well as a brief look at the
rock cycle. There will also be some consideration of aspects of astronomy.
We will be using the textbook and workbook Touché 2 along with the Linguascope website. There will be additional cultural studies work linked to the language content. We will
work on
Unit 3: On fait le ménage and will learn to talk about household chores; talk about what people do to help at home and learn how to say how often we do things and how we feel
about doing chores around the house; continue to work on verbs and begin work on unit 4: C’est le weekend and learn how to talk about the weather in French.
The cross country is upon us in term 3, testing the resilience and perseverance of students. All Year 8 classes are having a sexuality unit delivered by their Physical Education
teacher throughout the course of term 3. If all goes well we will be making use of our new pool facilities and reintroducing aquatics into the programme. To cap off the term,
preparation for athletics will start.

Technology
Year 8 will be completing the Food Technology unit and perfecting their creative and innovative ‘cheese rolls’ for their clients and evaluating their technology practice.
We shall then start a Biotechnology unit looking at essential oils and ‘green therapy’. This will be based in awareness of the products we put onto our skin, their ingredients and the
effect of these on us and the environment.
With Sustainability as a theme, the girls will carry out some Market Validation around the concept of ‘green therapy’.
They will then design and develop lip gloss products for an identified client.
Visual Arts
When we have made our products we will also do some financial literacy and identify the production costs.
Students will investigate themes and ideas of contemporary Pacific artists. Through exploring structure, students will create a three dimensional design.
Dance and
Drama
In Term 3 Drama, each class will focus on different aspects of the Drama curriculum. This will include the theatre form Clowning, Performances, and a unit of work devised around
the topic of inclusive behavior.
Music
Y8 students will be engaged in a study of ‘House’ dance music and the major musical feature within this. They will then apply these understandings via a series of short composition
tasks using Garageband. These will be layered together to create their own house music composition. This composition needs to be completed by the end of term. Assessment of
these compositions will commence Week 1 of Term 4.
