Analysis of Google Glass and its
Application

ABSTRACT
This seminar is giving some basic concepts about GOOGLE PROJECT GLASSES.
Google glass is small device having android operating system, all features of Smartphone
and having internet facilities and adjustable to our eyes As Google glass is very new and
recent technol-ogy, this abstract will help you to know little bit about the Google glasses.
this technology will be released in 2014 and cost will be approximately 750 dollar to 1500
dollar. While Google has been excellent at keeping secret projects a secret, the Glasses
project has long been speculated about and anticipated by the tech news community. As of
April 2012, the augmented reality glasses are slated to be released in late 2014 Up until
now, very little has been known about the features of Google Glasses. Here are ve of the
features expected to appear on the new Google Goggles device.
Checking In:- Any Google mobile device would not be complete without the ability to
check into locations through Google Plus. So, it's no surprise that a check-in function is
among the main features on the augmented reality device. You simply check in using
hand gestures. What these hand gestures consist of is not readily known as of yet, but
the big idea is that checking will be a seamless e ort from now on.
Video Calling:- . According to the video, the Google Glasses user can view transmitted
video from another caller from a small screen from inside the glasses.
Photo Sharing:- Just as with Google smart phones, photo sharing will be an integral
feature of the Google Glasses device. In the Google Glasses video, the user simply
asks the glasses to take a picture of an image ahead. In this case, the image is of gra ti
art. In any case, the big idea is that Google Glasses users will be able to take handsfree pictures through using voice-activated commands.

Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION
Just a couple of days ago, Google released a brand new video showing real-life footage from its Project
Glass, a futuristic wearable heads-up display with a mounted camera and cellular connectivity. Weve
seen Glass in action before, but now is the rst time we actually get to see the user interface of the
platform powering Glass as it is. Not just that, we get a deeper look at what Google thinks would be the
practical uses for the futuristic wearable display.
Weve watched this video over and over again, imagining the possibilities o ered by Glass. We believe
Glass has the potential to be more than just a heads-up display. With cellular connectivity on board, it
could well be the next big disruption since the iPhone. And with a deeply engraved social DNA, Glass
could nally give Google Plus a much needed push, turn the market dynamics against Facebook, and
change telephony along the way. Here is how.

WHAT IS GOOGLE PROJECT GLASSES?
Google Glass is the attempt to make wearable computing mainstream, and it's e ectively a smart pair of
glasses with an integrated heads-up display and a battery hidden inside the frame. Wearable computing
is not a new idea, but Google's enormous bank account and can-do attitude means that Project Glass
could well be the rst product to do signi cant numbers. Google glasses are nothing but technology on your
face.You can use all modern technology of your smartphone without using your hands,its the simple thing
that is technology on ypur face . Its just like any other device having operating system and all other
features that are available in smartphone but main thing is that its faster,wearable and you can use it
while doing day to day activities

WHEN WILL IT BE RELEASED?
above gure shows that,It looks as though Project Glass will see a public release in 2014 at the earliest.
Latest news is that developers will be able to get hold of 'explorer edition' units at some point in 2013 with
a "broad consumer o ering" arriving a year later.
2.3
WHAT IS THE PROJECT GLASS PRICE?
You have seen the Project Glass. Are you interested to buy it?if your answer is yes then you must have to
check out the followong information ," the glasses are expected "to cost around the price of current
smartphones." So that's around 750 doller, to 1500 doller The prise is too high for common people but it
will be a ordable in future.

3.2
OPERATING SYSTEM USED:-
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean: The list of new features The android system is use for google project glasses.
Android, version 4.1 Jelly Bean is used in google project glasses. The new update of Android, version 4.1
Jelly Bean, is o cially available on the Smartphone Galaxy Nexus in the United States and of course on
the long-awaited Google Nexus 7. And now Its gonna to be used in google project glasses.
The noti cations will be more comprehensive, with the ability to perform certain actions directly at the
level of the noti cation bar without launching the application. For example you can view a screenshot
you just captured in a noti cation and also share at the same time.
In the browser HTML5 rendering has been enhanced to videos and animations. The pages will appear
faster with the Javascript Engine V8. We deem coin if these improvements are really e ective.
Face Unlock, that is the option that allows you to lock or unlock your device with the recognition of
your face should be more precise and fast through the recording of multiple photos to recognize you
and this even with accessories such as sunglasses or a hat.

Google added a musical widget which recognize as Shazam and SoundHound, music broadcast,
and as Google sells music, you can buy the recognized piece directly on the Google Play Store.
Can also be reported in bulk the possibility of using the voice dictation even o ine, a button of rapid
change in the language of the keyboard, support for the recent USB audio docks and nally the ability
to instantly pair Bluetooth devices with also this option.
Everything in Jelly Bean feels fast, uid, and smooth. Moving between home screens and switching
between apps is e ortless, like turning the pages of a book.
Jelly Bean improves performance throughout the system, including faster orientation changes, quicker
switching between recent apps, and smoother and more consistent rendering across the system through
vsync and triple bu ering.
Jelly Bean has more reactive and uniform touch responses, and makes your Android device even more
responsive by boosting your devices CPU instantly when you touch the screen, and turns it down when
you dont need it to improve battery life.

BLUETOOTH:-
Googles Project Glass will undoubtedly have network connectivity through Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11 b/g, so
when a Federal Communications Commission ling for this device was spotted detailing these features, it wasnt
anything to surprising. However, along with these features, the ling for Project Glass or Google Glasses also
highlighted the fact that this wearable device will also come with bone conduction technology. What this means
is that Google Glasses will eliminate headphones as well as earpieces and instead rely on vibrations that are
conducted through the ear bones to allow you to hear music and other audio content. The advantage of using
this technology is that not only can you hear music that you are playing through this device, but you can also
hear conversations that are taking place beside you. Now, bone conduction technology by itself isnt new, its
been around for some time. The only problem is that this technology hasnt become mainstream with most
users still preferring headphones to listen to music. However, Google is a big player and if their Google
Glasses do take take o , we may nally see bone conduction technology come to the forefront much faster then
it would have without the backing of the search engine giant

4.1
WHAT MAKE IT WORKS?
While Google employees have given us a few glimpses into Project Glass, there's still a lot we don't know.
Company representatives stress that Project Glass is still in development. Specs and features can change
dramatically from the concept phase to the nal build. But based upon the concept video and the little
information Google has shared, we can make some guesses as to what will be under the hood. Within the
glasses is a microprocessor chip. Considering the size of the device and the need to manage heat output, it's
likely that the chip inside the glasses is an advanced RISC (reduced-instruction-set computing) machine
(ARM)-based microprocessor. These chips are less powerful than the ones you'll nd in a standard desktop
computer, but they're also more e cient and smaller. At Google I/O, members of the Google X team said that
the glasses had a lot of memory. This allows the processor to work faster { it has access to the information it
needs when executing operations. They also revealed that the glasses they were demonstrating had a touchsensitive surface along the right side of the frame. The frames also had a button on the top edge of the right
eye for taking photos. That brings us to the camera. Google didn't reveal the resolution of the camera on the
glasses. Because of its position on the frames, pictures taken with Project Glass eyewear are from the
perspective of the photographer. When you look at a photo made with Google's glasses, it's as if you're taking
the place of the photographer. Google also showed several photos that featured both of the photographer's
hands within the frame, suggesting that there may be ways to capture images besides using the physical
button. The glasses also have a microphone incorporated into the frame and a speaker. According to CNET's
Rafe Needleman, who attended Google I/O and got to try on a pair of glasses, the frames only have a speaker
for the right ear. Other data-gathering devices within the frame are gyroscopes, an accelerometer and a
compass. These components feed information to the processor, which can then interpret the position and
attitude of the glasses at any given time. The team from Google also revealed

that the glasses have several data-communication radios, including WiFi and Bluetooth antennas. What it
doesn't include { at least in the prototype stage { is a cellular antenna One other element that must be part
of the frames but wasn't addressed directly is a power source. Google hasn't talked about the type of
battery that's inside the frames, or what the expected battery life would be during an average day wearing
the glasses.
4.2
VOICE COMMANDS:-
In order to understand the prospects for Google Glass, we need to look at Googles recent history.. More
importantly, it has started changing extremely rapidly, evolving in a very clear vertically integrated vector.
Googles strong cloud presence however is just a part of the foundation that has been laid to make Google
Glass possible. Arguably the most important new piece of technology behind the ambitious heads-up Glass
display that is designed to be used with no hands is voice interaction. Weve really only recently started seeing
the brilliant work done on voice recognition in Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the rst Android version that leverages
Googles brain, a cloud-based arti cial intelligence system that creates more patterns as you feed it more data,
and thus only gets better over time. The end result is an extremely snappy and accurate voice recognition
engine that is right now working for English, and will soon be deployed to recognize other languages as well.

4.3
THE MENU: SURPRISING DEPTH
It seems like Google has managed to get Glass to listen to you at all times. You just say a pre-de ned
voice command like ok glass at any point at time to wake it up. Supposedly, this does not require a push
of a button. That alone could be huge. Other systems like Siri and Google Voice in contrast do require to
be rst turned o before they start listening. That is mostly because of battery life concerns, and
sidestepping that manual switch on process is actually a huge deal. Were yet to hear whether Google has
indeed found a way to get Glass to actively listen to you at all times for a wake-up command, and how it
has done so while keeping a reasonable battery life for the device.

actual user interface and menu.
The ok glass voice command wakes up the display and brings up the main menu. The Google Glass
main menu is navigated mostly by voice. There are ve commands which might seem limited, but some of
them have quite a depth to them. Here is what you can do with the Glass right now:

1. Google
Google is the rst and most diverse voice command. The ellipses (...) after the command indicate
that you can follow it up with sub-commands. Whats particularly exciting is how Google shows the
results. You can of course look up information, but instead of the usual results page, you get a cardlike view. It is somewhat similar to Google Now (more on that later), with a very brief and concise
information designed to t the small Glass display. Searching for Images is also very straightforward
with pictures showing up directly on the screen.

simple search, though. It taps into Google hidden superpowers like translations so you can
have Glass translate things for you on the go and also speak them to you. We also expect that
all the standard Google functions will be supported - calculator, weather, time, sports scores,
unit and currency conversions, people pro les, local searches, movie showtimes, health
conditions, medications info, trip planning, and others.
2. take a picture
Snapping images with Glass should be an extremely rewarding and spontaneous experience after all you can snap images everywhere almost instantly. Most importantly of course, you can
shoot images while doing something with your hands. Then, even with a smartphone it takes a
couple of seconds to take the device out of the pocket and re up the camera, Glass has the
potential to cut that time drastically. So far, we are only seeing single images taken with Glass
but we see no reason why a deeper menu cannot be implemented by the time of launch with
standard camera options like burst shots, live lters and so on.
3. record a video
Recording a video is another great examples where the hands-free nature of Google Glass
shines. What makes Glass di erent from most head-mounted cameras though is its cellular
connectivity and ability to instantly share the captured footage.

With Google Maps in the corner of your eye at all times you can easily navigate yourself while
driving, cycling, walking. Again, having your display head-mounted and your hands free is the
greatest advantage to Glass.

APPLICATIONS OF GOOGLE PROJECT GLASSES:
1 You can make calls via Glass
AS shown in gure,From the demo videos that Google has uploaded on the Web, Google
Glasses can be used to make calls by simply talking to the device. If you want to call a friend,
simply say "OK, glass, call my friend, Karen" and it initiates a call. Its that simple.

2 The translation is straightforward, practical and fun
as shown in gure,Imagine the potential of being able know and identify street signs in foreign
languages, languages being spoken around you and being able to pull up related info simply by

looking at objects. That is the power of Glass to shrink the world....

3. Say "take a picture' to take a picture
as shown in gure,The Glass unit responds to voice commands such as "take a picture" and
takes snapshots of whatever object you are looking at. The pictures are automatically uploaded
onto your Google+ pro le in real-time. This is an excellent way to take shots of those rare
moments while you are engaged in an activity without distraction from it.

4. With Google Glass you can record hands free
as shown in gure,Just like taking snapshots, recording works in a similar way by telling glass to
record the activity you are engaged or looking at. What is even more amazing is the ability to
share what you are seeing on a Google Hangout live.

5. If you're lost Google Glass will come to your rescue
below gure shows you that,If you are ever in a strange location and cannot nd your way back,
Glass comes to your rescue by bringing up directions to your destination from where you are.
You no longer have to drag your map with you when driving or biking since all the directions,
including the distance and the estimated time of arrival, are right there on your face.

6. Google Glass can be a translator
As shown in gure,Glass gives a new twist to how you search for information on the web. You
simply look at an object of interest and ask whatever's on your mind about the object. Say you
are purchasing spinach at a local Chinese grocery store. How do you ask the store owner for
spinach in Chinese? Just ask Glass to tell you how to pronounce and bam! You have your own
translator right there with you.

7. Google Glass is strong and light for everyday use As shown in gure,Glass is so light and
inconspicuous that nobody will be able to tell that you are interacting with a computer screen. The
unit comes in varying colors, so you don't have to worry about it crashing with your favorite out t. It spots
charcoal, tangerine, shale and cotton sky colors with more colors and frame designs being tested.

8. You can't make Google Glass like Google
Below gure shows the design of the google project glasses.If you like the sleek ornamental design
of Glass and looking to create your own set to sell, too bad because Google has already patented
the design and look. This will help protect the technology and discourage people faking Glass. You
don't want to start having sub-standard Glass units that come nowhere near the real thing.

9. Google Glass never gets in the way
By positioning the unit slightly above your right eye, you get to do amazing things with it
without distracting from your environment. It is lighter than many sunglasses and super sturdy
allowing you to use it for most situations. It allows you to catch eeting moments with friends
and family and o ers, genuinely, the rst-person point of view snapshots that would otherwise
be lost forever.
10. Google Glass can let you know how fast you are driving
AS shown in gure,Glass is amazing not only in identifying your current location but can also let
you know how fast you are driving or biking without disconnecting or disengaging from the
physical world.
