Junior Clinic Pathway
Pee Wees (ages 3 & 4; no tennis experience)
Playing with mini nets and foam balls.
Areas of emphasis:
-Hand-eye coordination
-Movement and balance
-Rolling and trapping
-Throwing and catching
-Learning to listen and follow basic instructions
Orange Ball (ages 7 & 8; graduate of Red Ball)
Playing on 60 ft. courts with orange balls.
Areas of emphasis:
Red Ball (ages 5 & 6; graduate of Pee Wees)
Playing on mini courts with red balls.
Areas of emphasis:
-Basic strokes
-Listening and working with a partner
-Intro to basic serve
-Self feeding to build a mini rally
-Consistently able to hit a ball over a mini net
Green Ball (ages 9, 10 & 11; graduate of Orange Ball)
Playing on full courts with green balls.
Areas of emphasis:
-Focus on fundamentals and stroke refinement
-Learning proper grips
–Quick and efficient movement
-Serving with a higher contact point in continuous motion
-Intro serving with a continental grip
-Keeping score
-Hitting and rallying consistently over the net
-Hitting with direction and depth
-Intro to spin
-Full body coordination
-Basic tactics and strategy
-Refining service techniques using proper grip
-Specific footwork and quicker reactions
-Proper use of match scoring
-Full court rallying
Intro to POE (graduate of Green Ball)
Playing on full courts with green and yellow balls.
Areas of emphasis:
Teen Beginner (ages 12, 13, & 14)
Progression from orange to green to yellow balls.
Areas of emphasis:
-Sound fundamentals on all strokes
-Changing direction and depth of ball
-Serving with proper grip -Proper use of different spins
-Specific footwork, quicker reactions, and balance
-Down the line and cross court rallying
High School Novice (ages 15, 16, & 17)
Progression from green balls to yellow balls.
Areas of emphasis:
-Intro to grips and basic stroke fundamentals
-Serving with a continuous motion -Self feeding and serving
-Build and construct a rally
-Proper scoring during match play
-Intro to grips and basic stroke fundamentals
-Developing basic serve with proper grip
-Positioning and movement to the ball
-Self feeding and building a rally
-Learning to keep score in a match
**If your child has not played at The Club at Harper’s Point
before and has minimal tennis experience, please
sign them up for the clinic based on the ages provided in the
descriptions. The instructor will determine if they
are in the appropriate class on the first day, and if not, they
will be moved accordingly.
