You should fill this dictionary in if the person has little or no speech, their speech is hard to understand, they say certain words that mean something else or if the person uses gestures, vocalisations, or actions to communicate. As a guide you can start by describing how the person communicates the following: Yes, no, I don’t want, I am sick, I am happy, I am sad, I am angry, I need the toilet, I am thirsty, I am hungry, I want to chat, I am bored. What ___________says or does (Write in how the word is spoken, how it sounds or what the action, gesture is) What it means (Write in what the word/action or gesture means) Example of words and action: Tim says “go park’ and points to outside. Standard 1 Empowerment 2 3 Criteria People understand their rights and responsibilities. 1.1 People’s rights are promoted and upheld. 1.2 People exercise their rights and responsibilities. Access and Engagement 2.1 Services have a clear and accessible point of contact. People’s right to access transparent, equitable and integrated services is promoted and upheld. 2.2 Services are delivered in a fair, equitable and transparent manner. 2.3 People access services most appropriate to their needs through timely, responsive service integration and referral. Wellbeing 3.1 People’s right to wellbeing and safety is promoted and upheld. Services adopt a strengths-based and early intervention approach to service delivery that enhances people’s wellbeing. 3.2 People actively participate in an assessment of their strengths, risks, wants and needs.
