WACO 52 : CALL FOR ARTISTS 52 outstanding artists 52 unique perspectives of Waco and McLennan County Creative Waco is partnering with State Representative Doc Anderson to host a juried exhibition showcasing visual artists based in Waco and McLennan County in the lower rotunda of the Texas state capitol, May 12-17 (and afterwards, in Waco). Entries are invited from any artist living or working in McLennan County. Work can be in any 2D medium (or 3D medium that can be hung on a wall). Artwork may be representative or abstract, but should express something of the distinctiveness and "spirit" of Waco and McLennan County. There will be a VIP reception at the State Capitol, and a second launch event when the exhibition opens in Waco. Selected artists will also be paid a fee of $50 for their work to be included in a limited edition set of playing cards that will accompany the exhibition, proceeds from which will be used to support the arts in Waco. Artists are encouraged to submit work in “portrait” orientation or that can be cropped for the playing card component. Artists may also offer their work for sale in the exhibition (artists will receive 80% of the sale value and Creative Waco will receive 20% commission, which will be used to support the arts in Waco). Artists need to be 18 years or older to participate. Entries should be submitted electronically and need to include the completed forms below. Detailed instructions are on the final page. Creative Waco undertakes to treat all artwork with appropriate care, but is not liable for any damages to my work while on exhibition, in transportation, or while in the possession of Creative Waco. Deadline is Midnight, Wednesday 15 March, Central Time 2. There is no entry fee. 3. If selected, artists will need to supply exhibition quality original artwork work for the exhibition ready to hang. Creative Waco reserves the right to exclude works from the exhibition that do not appear to be presented in a professional manner or according to specifications. 4. Preparation of jpeg files for submission: Your first file of each artwork should be 1200 pixels in the longest dimension and saved in JPEG format on the highest quality setting. Images should also be saved in Adobe RGB color space. (learn how to size your digital image HERE) Your second file of each artwork should be cropped to 500 x 700 pixels in “portrait” orientation (as it would appear on the playing card). and saved in JPEG format on the highest quality setting. Images should also be saved in Adobe RGB color space. Files should be labeled as FirstName_Lastname_ followed by consecutive numbers. For example: Sam_Jones_1.jpg, Sam_Jones_2.jpg, etc. Please don't forget to include the "jpg" extension. Do NOT use spaces in the file name, and do NOT use special characters such as :;’”/?}{()[ ]+=*&^%$#@! (use only alpha-numeric characters). 5. Creative Waco and the venues will exercise all due care when handling your work but will not be held responsible for loss, damage or replacement. If you would prefer to bring and install your own work, please let us know this when submitting your entry. 6. Creative Waco and the venues retain the right to display, project and reproduce work accepted for this exhibition for publicity and promotional purposes and for the printing of the deck of cards. Individual artists still retain copyright to their own individual images. 7. 3D work may be submitted, but needs to be suitable for hanging on display boards. 8. Successful entries will be asked to deliver their original artwork, wrapped in protective packaging, to the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce during the week beginning April 24. 9. Questions?
