CPL MIXED GAME RULES CPL Mixed Game Rules: All standard CPL game rules will apply in the Mixed Trial Season. Please refer to Rule 6 – Game Regulations in the CPL Rules and Regulations V1-20 (http://canberraplayersleague.com/wpcontent/uploads/2017/04/CPL-Rules-and-Regulations-V1.20.pdf) A snapshot of these rules: 4 x 10 minute running clock quarters. The last two minutes of the 4th quarter will be fully timed. The clock will stop for timeouts. Overtime will be of three minutes duration, with full running clock until the final minute. The last minute is fully-timed. Shot clock will be active. Each team is entitled to two timeouts per half. In addition to timeouts called during a dead ball situation, timeouts can be called by the offensive team in live ball situations, only by the person with possession of the ball. No timeouts during overtime. There are no possession arrows in the CPL. The start of the game will be determined via jump ball at the middle of the court. Any held ball situations or interruptions on play (ball stuck on ring) will be decided via jump ball either at the middle of the court or at the foul line closest to where the play was disrupted. Ball possession at the start of the 2nd quarter is given to the team listed as Team A on the score sheet. The start of the 3rd quarter is decided once again via jump ball in the middle of the court. At the beginning of the 4th quarter, the ball starts with the team listed as Team B. Player game statistics will not be recorded during the Mixed Trial Season. Player “point’s value” to be filled in on scoresheet by captain prior to each game. In addition to the above-mentioned rules, to ensure a fair mixed competition, the CPL will enforce the following mixed specific rules: 1. During the game a team must be represented by at least two (2) female and (2) male players on the court. The fifth player can be either male or female. 2. Four (4) players may start the game (2 females and 2 males). 3. A team must have no more than three (3) players of any one gender may be on the court at any one time. 4. A male must not defend a female’s active shot, within the key. The male player must stand in defensive position, with his hands raised, within his cylinder (see Diagram 1) and must not lower his hands to actively defend the shot. Any intentional defensive violation of this rule is to be treated as goal tending; i.e. automatic 2 points to the opposing team. Note: It is at the referee’s discretion as to whether or not the defensive player made an attempt to block. 5. If a male player fouls a female player in the act of shooting, within the key, the basket counts and a single free throw is awarded. A foul is to be recorded as per normal rules. 6. Males can defend females in the key, prior to the female player beginning the shooting motion. Under this definition of ‘shooting motion’, a female player who has gathered the ball to attempt a layup is deemed to be in the ‘shooting motion’ and the ball may not be “stripped” by a male player.
