MEDIA RELEASE
Pony Club Australia team wins the International Mounted Games 2016
Pony Club Australia has won the International Mounted Games for the second year in a row, narrowly
defeating the team from the UK. The 2016 event was held in Australia on the main arena of the Whittlesea
show in Victoria last Saturday.
Teams of 5 riders from Pony Clubs in the UK, USA, Canada and Australia competed in 4 rounds of
Mounted Games challenging fitness and skill of both horse and rider. All riders (including the Australians)
in the event rode borrowed horses rotated each round. Performing at the elite level on an unfamiliar horse
is a fantastic achievement for these riders under 16 years old. Pony Club Australia is thankful to the
members of Pony Club and Mounted Games Association who loaned their mounts for the event.
Pony Club Australia was delighted to host the visiting teams for 2 weeks prior to the competition in which
the visitors experienced highlights of Victoria - bushwalking in the Grampians, canoeing, a cruise on the
Yarra, visits to Phillip Island, Healesville Sanctuary, the Darley stud operation at Northwood Park
Seymour, and Pony Clubs at Stawell and Yarrambat.
The winning Australian team members were
Laura Chalmers (Tasmania), Teresa
McCallum (Northern Territory), Annie Herzer
(Western Australia), Chris Paton (Victoria),
and Amanda Mills (Queensland). Team coach
Tim Moreton and Manager Anne Cotton
continued their winning partnership, having
taken the 2015 team to victory in the USA in
2015.
The Pony Club International Mounted Games takes place every year on a rotational basis and Pony Club
Australia looks forward to the 2017 competition in Canada.
