Meeting of the Bureau of the International Conference on Chemicals Management,
New York, United States of America, 4 May 2010
Venue:
The meeting will be held in Conference room E in the North Lawn Building of the United Nations
in New York. The North Lawn Building is a temporary facility hosting UN meetings during the
renovations of the United Nations Office in New York. It is located on the same premises as the
United Nations Office in New York, namely 760 United Nations Plaza (1st Avenue at 46th Street), New
York, NY 10017, United States of America.
Dates and openings:
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, 4 May 2010, from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. at the above venue.
Access to the meeting venue:
Please note that you will need to obtain a United Nations groundpass to enter the United Nations
premises in New York. Should you be accredited and registered to participate in the 18th session of
the Commission on Sustainable Development you may use that groundpass to enter the meeting
venue. Important: Participation in the Commission on Sustainable Development requires separate
accreditation and registration. Please contact your respective CSD focal points or Missions at the
United Nations in New York concerning the accreditation and registration formalities.
Once registered for the 18th session of the Commission on Sustainable Development, you can obtain
the groundpass at the United Nations Pass and ID Office located at 801 UN Plaza (entrance on 1 st
Avenue at 45th Street). Passes are issued Monday through Friday 9.00 a.m. – 12.45 p.m. and 2.00 to
4.00 pm. It is suggested that groundpasses be obtained on Monday, 3 May, 2010 in order to ensure
timely commencement of the ICCM Bureau meeting. Non-governmental representatives should
contact the NGO Branch (One UN Plaza, Room DC1-1480 New York, NY 10017; Tel: (1-212) 9638652; Fax: (1-212) 963-9248; E-mail: [email protected]) to ensure that they are properly accredited
to attend the CSD meeting and hence obtain a groundpass. For further information, please refer to the

Please inform us as soon as possible should you not plan to participate in the 18 th session of the
Commission on Sustainable Development and hence require a specific groundpass for
participating in the ICCM Bureau meeting. Please note that participants in the ICCM Bureau
meeting whose travel is being funded by the SAICM secretariat are expected also to attend the
18th session of the Commission on Sustainable Development (first week: 3 – 7 May 2010).
Registration for the ICCM Bureau meeting will open on 4 May 2010 at 8 a.m. at the meeting venue.
Language:
The meeting will be conducted in English.
Travel arrangements:
For those participants receiving travel assistance, an air ticket will be provided for the least costly
route from your nearest airport to New York, United States of America, and back. Travel will be
arranged for arrival in New York on Sunday 2 or Monday 3 May and departure on Friday 7 May. In
order for the secretariat to process your travel, you are kindly invited to submit as soon as possible, a
copy of your national passport (page with photo and holder’s information only) to the attention of Ms.
Esther Santana by e-mail: [email protected] or by fax: +41 22 797 3460.
Daily allowance and payment:
Sponsored participants will be provided with a Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA) to cover their
accommodation and local expenses. The secretariat accepts no responsibility for the payment of hotel
bills, meals, taxis, excess baggage charges, insurance, ground transport charges, and other incidental
expenses. These liabilities should be settled directly by the participants. Participants eligible for
funding will need to pick up DSA at the American Express Office on the 2nd floor of the “FF”
Building located 304 East 45th Street, Manhattan, New York (Opening hours: 9 am – 4 pm). It is
suggested that the DSA be picked up on Monday, 3 May 2010. Kindly bear in mind that you will need
to obtain your UN ground pass before being able to enter the building where the American Express
Office is located.
Accommodation:
Please note that no hotel arrangements have been made by the SAICM secretariat and that participants
in the Bureau meeting are hence expected to make their own arrangements. A list of hotels in New
York with indicative prices (indicative) is contained in Annex I.
Visa arrangements:
Participants are responsible for obtaining their own visa, if required. Please contact the United States
Embassy or Honorary Consulate in your country to request a visa (please visit website at
http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1265.html).
Insurance:
Participants are expected to make their own arrangements for insurance against accidents, if so desired
(recommended).
Electricity:
The electricity is 110V 50/60 cycle.
Currency:
The currency used in the United States is the United States Dollar. As of 13 April 2010 one United
States Dollar was equivalent to approximately 0.736 Euros.
Weather:
The climate in New York beginning of May can vary with average temperatures between 12 to 20oC.
May is also the rainiest month in New York.
