Small Grants Criteria Active– Apply for new physical activity provision engaging young people 5+ What we can fund? We cannot fund: Examples of what a grant may be spent on: o o Venue/facility hire o Equipment purchase o Sports kit o Transport o Refreshments o Marketing/Publicity o Staff training o Staff/Coach/Volunteer expenses Running costs to continue a current activity Example A local youth organisation secures a joint grant with a local table tennis group for £2,000. The object is to deliver 12 sessions of table tennis on a Monday evening to engage people at the local youth organisation. Due to the success there is growing demand for another session on a Thursday. Active East are unable to fund another 12 sessions however they may be able to fund the extra staff training required to meet this demand. What is physical activity? Submission Dates: According to national guidelines physical activity is movement of the body that uses energy and includes exercise; sport; play; dance; and active living such as cycling and walking. We hope to encourage the daily recommendations by providing opportunities for young people to participate in activities they otherwise may not have tried before and to strengthen the pathways for those who wish to progress with the activity. Children 5+ should aim for 60 minutes a day Adults 16+ should aim for 30 minutes a day Please email any questions to [email protected] Applications that link between youth work and sports organisations are of particular importance in achieving the aim of Active East. Therefore we are looking for joint partnership applications. Grant Maximum £2,000 Active Guidelines Please take the time to read over the guidelines as each section explains the information we are looking for when assessing your application. 1) What is the name of your programme / activity? We want to know what your programme and activity is called. 2) What is it you would like to do? We want to know about the type of sport/physical activity you want to deliver. Is this a new activity? Is it a development of an activity you currently offer? 3) How have you identified the need for this new provision? We want to know if young people or other organisations were consulted. Has there been an opportunity to try the activity in the past? If your Active Champion had any involvement in identifying the need for this new provision please explain. 4) Please provide details about the young people that will be engaged through this provision. We want to know about the young people that will be participating in this provision. Your answer could include: if they are new to your organisation, if they have participated in this activity before, if they expressed an interest in this activity, their general activity level. 5) How many young people will be involved? We want to know how many young people will benefit from grant funded activity. 6) What considerations have been given to developing pathways for those who are keen to progress with the activity? We want to know if you have developed any connections to support the transition of young people from their environment to a club for those that wish to progress their skills further in the activity. 7) Where will it take place? We want to know what role each partner will take, what skills will be shared and how you will deliver the provision together. Please highlight why this partnership will add value to the provision. 11) Who is/are your Active Champions? We want to know who your Active Champion is and if this is a joint application who the other clubs/groups Active Champions are. 11a) If not, have you attached a volunteer role descriptor for your programme within your application? Grants require a volunteer role for an Active Champion, if you provide a volunteer role descriptor we can promote the opportunity to the existing Active Champions involved in Active East. 12) How will your Active Champion/s be involved and how will they be managed? We want to know what elements your Active Champion will be involved in, for example; planning, delivery and how they will be supported throughout this. 13) What resources do you require to deliver this new provision? (e.g. equipment/facilities/transport/staff) For example: Do you require any of the following: qualified coaches/youth workers; sessional staff; volunteers; transport; equipment; publicity, venue or facility hire; refreshments to deliver this new provision? If you make your targets SMART: Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Time It will be easier to track your progress! The evaluation for your programme will focus on the 3 main outcomes that your programme should aim to achieve and evidence: Outcome Please indicate how your programme will achieve, measure and evidence each outcome below: Increase levels of physical activity among young people in the East of Glasgow Increase confidence and selfesteem of young people Create pathways and opportunities to continue to be active Please tell us how this new provision will be sustained beyond funding by Active East: We want to know what considerations you have given to sustain the provision.
