Completing the TPL Certificate Pop-up Screen
Overview
A Trade Preference Level (TPL) entry allows visa/quota exceptions and/or a
reduced rate of duty for goods originating from Canada or Mexico under the

TPL Certificate Popup
NAFTA agreement. The Quick Entry Summary screen is used to enter the
trade preference levels.
The prerequisites for TPL entries are as follows.
1. Determining the classification of the commodity and its corresponding
classifications which follow:
o 9905/9906
o 9909
2. Entering the CA or MX NAFTA TPL Certificate number.
When these two prerequisites are met, the TPL License/Certificate pop-up
screen will display automatically and you can enter the TPL license/certificate
number in the proper format.
Screen
Use the TPL License/Certificate pop-up screen to enter the TPL Certificate
number for the line item. When the number has been entered and you return
to the Quick Entry screen, an “L” will display to the left of the line item.
Note: To view or modify an existing Certificate number, enter LC-n in the
ACTION/ Selection field (where “n” is the line number). The TPL
License/Certificate pop-up will display.
Procedure
To complete the TPL License/Certificate pop-up screen, fill in the following
fields.

Tariff No
This is the tariff number that will default
from the Quick Entry Summary C/I
Lines.
The TPL Certificate requirements are
based on the tariff number, the entry type
and the country of origin (MX or CA). The
pop-up will not display unless an
applicable tariff number is entered on the
Quick Entry Summary screen, the entry
type code requires a TPL Certificate, and
the country of origin is MX or CA.
01 CA NAFTA TPL Enter the TPL Certificate number.
Cert
ACTION
Enter UR to update the screen and
return to the Quick Entry screen.
When the Entry Summary data for the
shipment is completed, the certificate
number will be transmitted through ABI to
Customs, and/or printed on the 7501 (in
block 34).
The Quick Entry Summary screen will redisplay.
