RECTE . FAC . NOLI . TIMERE ‘DO RIGHT FEAR NOT’ Prestwich Marauders FC Child Welfare Dear Parents and Players We would like to start by welcoming all new and existing players and members to the new season at Prestwich Marauders Football Club. We wish you all the best of luck for the season ahead. We are writing to you as your clubs Child Welfare Officers (CWO) to make you aware of our role within the club and how to contact us if necessary. Our main role is to ensure that the club has the welfare of its children as its priority and to create a safe and fun environment for all. Some of this includes: To ensure that EVERYONE including you at the club understands that we all have a “Duty of Care” towards our children and young people not just our coaches, managers and committee. That we have a safeguarding children and anti-bullying policy (available on request) To make sure our club has a recruitment process for all new managers, coaches, committee, first aiders etc. To encourage our club, coaches and managers to listen to our players thoughts, ideas and views To make sure that everyone in an official role has a full enhanced FA CRB. To promote the FA’s RESPECT programme and ensure everyone is aware of what it is about. RESPECT is The FA’s direct response to a clear message from the grassroots football. We all must improve standards of behaviour on and off the pitch. Parental behaviour is one of the main reasons why young players drop out of the game. Poor behaviour by coaches, parents and players towards each other and referees means that thousands of children are dropping out each season. Respect is aimed at helping us all to work together to change the negative attitudes and unacceptable behaviour on the sidelines and on the pitch. The role of the CWO is to ensuring that Respect is understood, taken on board by the committee, coaches/managers members and supporters. Respect outlines for everyone from league official to player to parent to club official to coach and referee that a certain standard of organisation and behaviour is expected in football. Many children have a fantastic experience through football but some sadly don't. This may be down to aggressive or pushy coaches and parents screaming and shouting from the sidelines. Respect highlights that this behaviour is unacceptable. We need to help coaches and parents understand the effects this behaviour can have on children and share positive ways to motivate young players. As we all know, there have been some tragic cases resulting from the wrong type of people working with children, both in wider society and within football. Making sure everyone knows how to report concerns about a child's welfare is essential. Knowing how to deal with poor practice issues is also vital and that’s where we come in. Prestwich Marauders F.C. has two Child Welfare Officers Leanne Hamilton and Sarah Green who both come from a professional background of working with children and young people. We are available at all times should you wish to contact us regarding any issues, problems or complaints you may have regarding a coach, manager, parent, official or even a player and I can assure you that these will be dealt with in strictest of confidence. We will be attending training sessions and matches throughout the season to introduce ourselves in person and we will look forward to meeting all of you. You can contact Leanne Hamilton – 07800750305 or via email [email protected] Sarah Green – 07766693556 or via email [email protected] Yours sincerely Leanne & Sarah
