At Carers Support Merton, we work with families to improve Young Carers lives in the following areas: 166,363 of these Young Carers live in England. Understanding their caring role Reduce feelings of isolation Improve emotional wellbeing Making healthy decisions The number of Young Carers under the age of 10 in England now totals 20,700. 51% of Young Carers look after a brother/sister. 28% of Young Carers look after a parent. 12% of Young Carers look after a grandparent. We work with families by advocating on their behalf, offering them emotional support and by giving Young Carers opportunities to take part in new, informative and fun activities. Eligibility Criteria What is a Young Carer? We define a ‘Young Carer’ as anyone aged between 5-17 that is significantly impacted by the diagnosed health condition, disability or substance misuse of a close relative. This means someone they live with or see on a daily basis. How to refer or contact Carers Support Merton The AYCES Project provides support for young people up to the age of 25 who are caring for a family member who has a mental health issue or has developed a drug or alcohol problem. The Lottery funded project is part of Young Carers Support Merton and also works in partnership with four other local agencies.
