“RULES OF COMPETITION” Rules are modified as the year goes on; Please contact the derby chair to ensure the rules have not been changed. ARENA RULES FOR ALL CLASSES 1. The NUMBER ONE RULE – BE SAFE AND HAVE FUN! You are the show – respect the audience. 2. If a driver or pit person is under the age of 18, they must have a waiver of liability signed by a parent or legal guardian. DRIVERS MUST BE AT LEAST 16 YEARS OF AGE! 3. Absolutely no alcohol or drugs allowed in the pit area. Coolers will be checked. If you are caught, you and your team will be escorted off the fairgrounds immediately. Sorry, no refunds. 4. Unsportsmanlike conduct or harassment of the judges, officials, or announcer will result in the immediate disqualification of you and your team. You will be escorted off the fairgrounds. 5. All judges decisions are final. Officials have final say at date and time of derby! 6. STAY IN CAR AT ALL TIMES! Drivers are only allowed to exit their cars when either the heat is over or the flagmen stop the heat for safety reasons. 7. If you leave your vehicle for any reason during the heat beyond the safety of your own bodily harm and the final judge’s ruling, you will be blacklisted and asked not to come back. 8. Driver has at most 2 minutes to get car going after a stall. 9. Drivers must compete, must hit before a minute has lapsed. 10. No hits against blocks. Hit wheels and out – no doors or center. 11. No holding of opponents or double-teaming. This will not be tolerated. You have been warned. 12. Do not hit driver’s door. Any deliberate hit on the driver’s door will result in an immediate disqualification. DO NOT “FEED” DRIVER’S DOOR. Judges will have last call on this. 13. All heats will be pre-assigned. Vehicles will be placed in heats according to the amount of entries in their class. 14. Idle only in pit area. No hot rodding. You have been warned. 15. Any controversies will be taken up at the drivers meeting and not after. 16. Only DRIVERS at the Driver’s Meeting. No other pit members allowed. If nondriver’s are present they will be asked to leave the meeting. 17. Cars must pass inspection at the gate, and if needed, will require changes or will not able to run. NO REFUNDS 18. Judges have the right to bore scope. 19. Hoods must be open or removed for inspection. 20. Must be able to see into the trunk somehow to inspect. 21. Cars are subject to re-inspection between heats or before any prize money is handed out. 22. All rules will be enforced. Follow them or YOU WILL NOT RUN! GENERAL RULES FOR ALL CLASSES 1. If you have questions, call before you do or you will be cutting what you added. If there there is a GREY area and brought up at driver’s meeting you can and will be either moved to a different class or not run. 2. Each driver must have one fire extinguisher in their pit area. Also recommended to have a fire extinguisher in the car. 3. All drivers must wear pants and long sleeve shirts. No shorts, no tees or cutoffs. All drivers must have helmets. These must be full faced helmets. 4. All drivers must be fastened by an appropriate seat belt. 5. ALL VEHICLES MUST HAVE WORKING BRAKES!! 6. Cars must have roof signs with a number and numbers on passenger and driver’s door. Roof signs no longer than 24 inches and no higher than 18 inches. 7. No stuffing of the frame allowed. Examples are Sand, Grout, Cement, Foam, Clay. NOTHING BUT FRAME! 8. No patching of rust on the body or frame. Driver’s door rust patch is permitted. 9. No painting or undercoating frames or sub frames. 10. All hoods must have a minimum of 18” opening for fire safety; You may bolt hood tin around the opening with up to (8) ¼” bolts. 11. No under hood bracing is allowed, 12. All hoods must be secured by chain or bolts. 13. Reinforcing will be permitted for drivers safety and for fuel tank protection (be reasonable). Do not connect to frame. 14. Cages inside of car are allowed and recommended. Do not connect to frame. You are allowed a dash bar, back seat bar, and bars connecting them together. If you wish to have a roll hoop INSIDE the car, you may have one but NOT CONNECTING to the roof in any way. Rearward bracing must end 1’ in front of rear wheels. 15. Windshield bars (roof to cowl area) are permitted and are suggested. 16. Driver’s door reinforcement is required or YOU WILL NOT RUN, 17. Driver’s door reinforcement may be up to 6”wide and extend up to 6" in front of and behind the driver’s door. Trucks cannot extend past rear of cab. 18. Drivers door MAY be welded solid with up to 24" of plating. 19. Remove or disable the airbag Systems. 20. All cars must be stripped of interiors, molding, chrome, glass, extra misc. parts, hitches, roll bars, etc. BEFORE INSPECTION AT THE GATE. 21. All decking in station wagons MUST be removed. Rear jump seat must be removed. 22. All trailer hitches and braces must be removed. 23. No large holes in the firewall. 24. Headers are permitted but must go straight up only. 25. Batteries must be relocated in the passenger front area. BATTERIES MUST BE PLACED IN A BOX, RECOMMENDED TO BE MADE OF WOOD OR METAL. Box must be as tall as the battery. RATCHET STRAP DOWN OR VERY SECURELY FASTENED WITH BOLTS TO THE FLOOR. Bungee straps are not tight enough. 26. 27. 28. 29. 30. 31. 32. Battery must have some sort of cover in case of explosion. Maximum of 2 batteries allowed. Stock gas tanks must be removed, AND NOT USED INSIDE. Boat tanks are suggested. Special tanks for fuel injected motors are suggested. GAS TANKS MUST BE RATCHET STRAPPED DOWN IN AN “X” PATTERN. Recommended to have fuel tank protection. Electric fuel pumps must have a shut off switch. Transmission coolers are permitted. Coolers must be bolted or welded to floor panels. High temp hose with fittings or double steel clamps. All hoses must be covered. No studded tires, wheel weights, trim rings, or hub caps. DOT tires only, No Ag or long barred tires, enduro style or mud sipes allowed. NO SPLIT RIMS OR WELDING OF RIMMS ALLOWED OTHER THAN VALVE STEM PROTECTORS. Tires may be doubled, tubed, foamed, or flapped. WE DO NOT WANT FLATS! 15” rims maximum on cars, compact trucks and SUV; 16" maximum on full sized trucks. NO NUMBER 9 WIRE ALLOWED. COMPACT TRUCK, SUV & MINIVAN CLASS All General Rules Plus: 1. 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder only. 2. Compact truck must be 2 wheel drive only. 3. 4 wheel drive SUV’s must remove one drive shaft to make it front or rear wheel drive. 4. Trucks replacement fuel tank must be secured in the box behind the cab with straps in an "X" formation. No bungee cords allowed. Fuel lines must be protected. 5. Hoods may be bolted with no more than (4) bolts, 1" threaded rod or 3/4" bolts maximum. (2) of the bolts may be welded to (not through) the frame near the radiator. Bolts may be welded to radiator support. 6. Tailgate can be welded and/or chained shut. 7. Truck boxes can be attached to the cab with up to (2) 1" threaded rod or 3/4" bolts maximum and 5" X 5" X 1/4" plate. 8. Drivers door may be welded solid and reinforced. Both are recommended. Welding: 5 on 5 off on all other doors, 2" X 5" X 1/4" plate maximum. 9. Motor mounts may be welded or chained, not both. Do not add metal. 10. Suspension must appear as factory components. 11. Front Suspension may be welded/bolted up providing height requirement is met. 12. Coil or leaf suspension is permitted. Interchange permitted, but must function properly. 13. All leaf suspension must stagger as factory leafs – NO double leafs. DO not weld leafs together or add leafs. 14. Extra leaf clamps can be added, up to 6 per side, clamps may be up to 2" X 4" 1/4" plate and 3/8" bolts. 15. Suspension must have 2” of travel up and down. 16. Rear shackles may be shortened/lengthened to meet height requirements. 17. Coil springs may be welded in place or chained to prevent them from falling out. 18. You may strengthen steering tie-rods as long as they appear stock. 19. Limiting rear suspension travel with chains is permitted. Chains must be loose at stock height. 20. Bottom bumper Height no higher than 20". 21. Bumpers are interchangeable, Car bumpers are allowed. 22. Front and rear bumpers may be chained or welded to bumper mounts to prevent dragging. 23. Bumpers mounts may be welded to frames – 8 inch mount max. 24. All shock absorber bumpers may be collapsed and welded. 25. Bumpers may not be filled, stuffed, or added to in any way. TRUCK CLASS All General Rules Plus No pre70’s pickups. Only rear wheel drive trucks will be allowed. All glass and chrome must be removed before entering. Absolutely no frame reinforcement, stuffing, filling or welding. No painting or undercoating of frames or sub-frames Reinforcing will be permitted for driver’s safety and for fuel tank protection. Be reasonable 7. All cab reinforcing must be within the shell of the cab. No kickers to the frame. 8. Drivers door must have protection or you will not run. 1. Bracing across the doorposts is permitted and encouraged 2. Bracing behind driver's head area is permitted and suggested. 9. If any frame reinforcing is found you will be disqualified. 10. All hoods must be opened or removed for inspection. 11. All hoods must have 18”minimum opening for inspection and fire safey. 12. No under hood bracing is permitted 13. All hoods must be secured by chain or bolts 14. Bolts are permitted. No more than 4 large bolts (¾”max) can be used to secure the hood. 15. Bolts from radiator support through the hood are permitted. 16. Bolts welded to (and not through) the frame and then bolted through the hood are also permitted. 17. You may bolt the box directly to the frame with up to 10 bolts (½”) 18. When you cut a hole in the cab/box for fuel lines, make sure the lines are well protected. 1. Use pipe or something similar to protect the lines. 2. DO NOT run the lines through the back window. 19. Suspension must appear as factory components. 20. No welding of shocks, shackles, or any other moveable rear suspension parts. 21. Front suspension may be welded/bolted up providing height requirements are met. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 22. Coil or leaf suspension is permitted; interchange permitted, but must function properly. 23. All leaf suspensions must stagger as factory leafs. (no double leafs.) 24. DO NOT weld leafs together. 25. Rear shackles may be shortened/lengthened to meet height requirements. 26. Steering-you may strengthen steering/tie rods as long as they appear stock. 27. Limiting rear suspension travel with chain is permitted. Chains must be loose at stock height. 28. Bottom bumper height: No higher than 26” for full size pickups. 29. Bumpers are interchangeable as long as they appear to be stock. No bumpers from vehicles not in your class. 30. Bumpers may be welded to bumper mounts or frames. 31. All shock absorber bumpers must be collapsed and welded. 32. Front and rear bumpers may be chained to prevent dragging. COMPACT CAR All General Rules Plus 1. All compact cars are allowed a maximum 109" wheelbase. 2. No 4 wheel drive vehicles. If car is 4 wheel drive you can remove the drive shaft to one of the axles to make it 2 wheel. 3. Motor mounts may be welded or chained, not both, Do not add metal. 4. Dash bar and seat bar are mandatory. You will not run if we feel the driver is not safe. 5. Drivers door may be welded solid and reinforced. Both are recommended. Welding: 5 on 5 off on all other doors, 2" X 5" X 1/4" plate maximum. 6. Front bumper mounts of 2" X 5" X 1/4" tubing maximum. Mounts may extend into frame a maximum of 4". 7. Shock bumper mounts or tube mounts allowed. NOT BOTH. 8. Factory full size car bumpers may be used, or stock thin metal bumper cover may be placed over a 3" X 3" 1/4" tube. Tube cannot extend past tire width. No stuffing of the tube or bumpers allowed. Any excess will be cut or you will be disqualified. 9. Bumper height, bottom of bumper not to exceed 20". 10. No frame reinforcement allowed. No patching of rust on the frame allowed. 11. Halo bar allowed for safety; no frame support. 12. One rear window bar allowed in center of window; not to be attached to the trunk. The bar must be in window area only. 13. Suspension must appear stock and must function. 14. Hood may be secured in 8 spots. Only 4 of the 8 spot can attach to (not through) the frame, 1" threaded rod or 3/4" bolts maximum. 15. Trunk may be chained, bolted or welded, only one. Welds may be 5 on 5 off, 2" X 2" 1/4" plating max. Trunk may be bolted shut with up to (4) 1" threaded rod or 3/4" bolts, tin to tin only, no attaching to the frame or subframe. FULL SIZE CAR All General Rules Plus 1. All full size cars except Chrysler imperials, pre 1970 Lincolns, convertibles, ambulances, hearses, or limousines. 1980’s and newer only! 2. Absolutely no frame reinforcement, stuffing, filling or welding. 3. No painting or undercoating of the frames or sub-frames. 4. The only welding allowed will be fore driver’s door protection and differential. 5. No changing of the suspension will be permitted. 6. No sliding driveshafts. 7. Bars will be permitted only on the dash and seat. No bars inside the doors will be permitted. 8. Any tires are allowed. 9. The trunk can be reinforced with 2 chains. Kinking the trunk is permitted. 10. 1 Chain will be allowed per door. 11. 4 Chains will be allowed on the hood. Front hood chains should go around the bumper. 12. No threaded rod may be used on the vehicle. 13. The motor may be chained. 14. The rear axel may be chained with 2 chains. 15. Bumper shocks may be collapsed. All hoods must be opened or removed for inspection. 16. All hoods must have 18” minimum opening for inspection and fire safety. 17. No pulling body mounts. 18. Valve stem protections are permitted. 19. The addition of any metal is strictly prohibited. 20. May have a flat bumper but no more than ¼ inch thick. 21. Fenders may be bolted with up to 4 bolts per fender. 22. Any factory parts are allowed including V-bumpers. Thanks for your participation.
