Term 1 – Nursery Rhymes: 5 Little Speckled Frogs
Learning Outcome:
Student will be able to count from 5-1.
Target Language:
Counting: 5,4,3,2,1
Nursery Rhyme key words: frogs, speckled, log, delicious bugs
Introduction to Topic:
Circle Time: Register and Songs
Theme Introduction: Put an A3 size blue card on the board. Add a rectangular piece of brown card to the blue
card. Stick the 5 frogs (Attachment 1) on the brown card (log). Count the frogs with the students. Continue
counting, each time taking a frog away until there are no more frogs left. Put all the frogs back on the log.
For younger students you can give each child a frog. Give each one a turn to put their frog on the log. Count all
the frogs together.

*Demonstrate craft and display.
Main Activity:
Craft 1: Frog Craft: Samples of crafts (Attachment 2) Choose one of the crafts.
Craft 2: 5 Little Speckled frogs – Let the students colour an A3 size paper blue with crayons. Stick a
rectangular piece of card in middle of the paper. Let the students add 5 little speckled frogs. (Attachment 3)
Sensory Play:
Choose a sensory play activity from Resource Book.
Game/Movement Activity:
Let students jump like frogs. Put a few flash cards of frogs (Attachment 1) under the parachute. Count to 3 and
let students get as many frogs as they can. Let the parents count with their child how many frogs they found. Put
the frogs on the parachute and let them sing the song again.
Extension Activity for 2+yrs:
Print a template of (Attachment 5) for each student and also copy of (Attachment 6) so that all students have the
frogs that are missing on the log. Cut the extra frogs out and let the students stick them on the log where there
are frogs missing to be able to count 1-5. Let them colour the picture/dot-to-dot.

Tell the class it’s nearly time to go home and say your farewells …. until next week. Have the students say
goodbye to you, the EA and one another.
Call students up to distribute completed work and for the child to return their badge.
