Setting Up Microsoft Outlook 2007
to access your CSSD
For Windows PC
This guide explains how to set up Microsoft Outlook on Windows 7 on
your laptop or home PC to open and access your CSSD email
account.
10 Steps to setting up Outlook 2007 to manage your emails:
1. Open Mail Settings
2. Add New Email Account
3. Select Microsoft Exchange
4. Enter CSSD Exchange Server Details
5. Security Settings
6. Connection Settings
7. Microsoft Exchange Proxy Settings
8. Type CSSD Username and Password
9. Complete CSSD Outlook Setup
10. Open Outlook to access your CSSD Mail &
Personal Email Set-Up
11. Other useful information
Each step is on a new page and there is a diagram to show
you the image that will appear on your computer screen.
Underneath this there are a series of steps to follow.
It’s easy!
1. Open Mail Settings
1. Click the 'Windows Start Button' and select 'Control Panel.'
2. In the Control Panel select 'View by Large Icons.'
3. Scroll down and select 'Mail.'
2. Add New Email Account
1. In the Mail Setup window select 'Email Accounts'
2. Then select 'New' in the Account Settings window.
3. In the Add New Email Account window, ignore the input boxes
and tick 'Manually configure server settings or additional
server types'
4. Then click the 'Next' button
3. Select Microsoft Exchange
1. In the Add New Email Account window select 'Microsoft
Exchange'
2. Then select 'Next.'
4. Enter CSSD Exchange Server Details
1. In the Add New Email Account window type
cssdexback01.cssd.ac.uk
2. in the Microsoft Exchange Server box. Un-tick 'Use Cached
Exchange Mode.'
3. Type your CSSD student number into the 'User Name' box.
Note: Do not select Check Name.
4. Select 'More Settings.'
5. Security Settings
5. In the Microsoft Exchange window select the 'Security' tab
6. Ensure 'Negotiate Authentication' is selected in the Logon
network security drop-down.
6. Connection Settings
1. Select the 'Connection' tab.
2. Tick 'Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP.'
3. Click 'Exchange Proxy Settings.'
7. Microsoft Exchange Proxy Settings
1. In the Microsoft Exchange Proxy Settings window, type
mail.cssd.ac.uk into the 'Use this URL to connect to my proxy
server for Exchange' box.
2. Tick the boxes 'Connect using SSL only' and 'Only connect to
proxy servers that have this principal name in their
certificate' and type msstd:mail.cssd.ac.uk.
Tick the following boxes:
 'On fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect
using TCP/IP'
 'On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect
using TCP/IP'
3. Select 'Basic Authentication' from the 'Use this
authentication when connecting to my proxy server for
Exchange' drop-down. Click 'OK.'
8. Type CSSD Username and Password
1. In the Connect to cssdexback01.cssd.ac.uk window,
type cssd_lis\ followed by your student number.
2. Type in your password
3. Click 'OK.'
9. Complete CSSD Outlook Setup
1. Click 'Next' in the Add New Email Account window
2. Then click 'Finish.'
10. Open Outlook to Access your CSSD Mail & Personal
Email Set Up
1. Each time you open outlook the Connect to
cssdexback01.cssd.ac.uk window will appear showing your:
2. User Name – CSSD_LIS\ [you central student number]
3. Each time you wish to open your CSSD email account you will
be required to enter your Password.
4. Wait a while and your mailbox will open.
11. Other Useful Information
Microsoft Outlook is the email program included with the Microsoft
Office suite. It is designed to manage your information and
collect emails from multiple email addresses. It manages
email, calendars, contacts, tasks and to-do lists.
