ESD Travel Softball League
The goal of ESD Travel Softball League is to provide an opportunity for travel/competitive teams in the
area to have a league of teams with similar skill level (or have no league) to play games and fulfill any
state associations requirements concerning player participation in league games and allows young
women to play fast pitch softball in an atmosphere that develops the fundamentals of softball
knowledge and skills, encourages and promotes teamwork, friendly competition, good sportsmanship,
character and respect for their teammates, opponents and umpires.
The ESD Travel League encourages coaches, players, fans and parents to exhibit courtesy and proper
decorum at all times.
There are no fees to join ESD and no schedules will be made unless someone is hosting and ESD
weekend or similar event. Teams in SD, NE, IA and MN can join even if they belong to another league.
If teams would like to play league games during the summer, it is up to the coaches to arrange games
with other teams in the league. Maintain your scorebooks for proof of games.
For a list of teams in the league, go to www.yanktongirlssoftball.com and click on the ESD tab. Teams,
clubs or associations hosting games or weekends are responsible for expenses and lining up fields and
umpires (most times teams split the costs).
The league will follow ASA rules with a couple of suggested exceptions:
Allow everyone to bat in your line-up and open substitution.
7 innings or 75 min. time limit.
U10 – 5 runs per inning. U12 – 7 runs per inning. If home team is behind by more than run limit when
time runs out, game will end.
FLIP-FLOP Rule – If home team is behind close to time running out and the inning ends, allow home
team to bat in the top of the next inning and if they go ahead, then visiting team will have chance to
bat, if not game is over.
League games can end in a tie.
Run ahead rule – 12 after 3 or 8 after 5. Since these are league games and they are intended to get the
girls playing time, it will be left up to the coaches if they want to end the game or continue playing until
time runs out at which point game would end.
We would like to join the ESD Travel Softball League. As coach/team representative, I understand there
are no fees to join the league and no league schedule will be made. I understand there will be some
ESD league weekends in which to get in league games, other than that it is up to us to line up games
