Training GK for Shot Stopping

Topic: Training the Goalkeeper for Shot Stopping
Objective: Increase the Goalkeepers ability as a shot stopper
Technical Warm up
6 Surfaces: Outside, inside, push with instep, stop with sole, push with the toe, heel the ball
back and turn. “Outside, Inside, Laces, Sole, Toe, Heel”! Speak to the ball.

GK Handling Warm up
 GKs shuffling/jogging in and out of
each other in a grid bouncing and
catching their ball. On the coaches
command:
 “Up” means toss yourself a high ball
 “Left” means dive to the left
 “Right” means dive to the right
 “Switch” means place your ball on the
ground and scoop up someone else’s.

5v5 to Targets and GKs
Two teams of 5 players each attack and
defend one goal with a goalkeeper. At
the goal a team is attacking, there is a
target player on either side of the goal
that they can use to keep possession.
