HAWBUSH WIN FIRST EVER NETBALL MATCH This week saw Hawbush Primary School’s Year 5 and 6 Netball team play and win its first game with a brilliant 21 victory over Church of the Ascension School from Wall Heath. The team which has been running for over a year with Reception Teaching Assistant, Miss Whitfield training the children each week have joined an inter-school ‘High-5’ netball league along with Church of the Ascension, Jessons Primary, Redhall Primary and Woodside Primary. The two games played last night were held at the Ellowes Hall Secondary School and resulted in a 2-1 win and a 6-2 defeat against Redhall Primary (although one opposition Goal Shooter being a foot taller than any other play there meant her 5 goals were almost unavoidable.) The Hawbush squad of Dylan Suffolk, Megan Nock, Robert Mitchell, Rebekkah Alexander, Harmony Bagley, Charley Shekespeare and Charlotte Sweeney were absolutely outstanding and performed above their expectations. Rob and Charlotte attacked and defended really well, Charley scored a great goal, Megan was running all over even after an elbow to the head, Rebekkah constantly kept working hard while defending, Dylan was brilliant at centre and Harmony played the best she has ever played for us. The first match against saw a tense first quarter with both teams missing chances before Goal Shooter Rob scored Hawbush’s first ever point after Dylan’s pass set him up. It was soon 2-0 to Hawbush when Goal Attack Charley scored with one of her first shots and despite conceding a goal in the third quarter Hawbush held on for its first win. In the second game against, Hawbush scored after just 20 seconds with Charlotte scoring with the first shot of the match, and following an equaliser, Rob scored again to put Hawbush 2-1 in front. Then the opposition put their tall Goal Shooter on and there was really nothing Hawbush could do as she scored 5 goals by virtually dropping the ball in the net, our players just simply couldn’t jump high enough, but they tried their best.
