Job Description - Development Manager

The Denver Public Library Friends Foundation, the nonprofit that raises money for the Denver
Public Library, is looking for a dynamic, driven fundraising professional to lead our development
efforts.
As our Development Manager, you will work with a passionate team of staff, board and
volunteers to create a strategic fundraising plan to identify and cultivate donors for major gifts.
You will also play a leading role in developing sponsorships for the Booklovers Ball, our annual
black-tie gala.

successfully managing a portfolio of donors? Would you like to work with a dedicated team of
library lovers in the landmark Denver Central Library?
Specific responsibilities include:
Strategic Planning and Implementation
 Create a multi-year fundraising strategy and implementation plan to meet foundation goals
 Establish timelines and milestones, assign roles and responsibilities, and track accountability
 Create metrics, report on progress, and adjust fundraising plan to achieve results
 Utilize available donor research data to develop prospect lists
Development Program Management
From the strategic plan, create a comprehensive development program and set priorities,
schedules and procedures to attain fundraising goals. Work with staff, board of trustees and
volunteers to support development activities.
 Establish and maintain fundraising programs for annual fund, major gifts, and planned
giving
 Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors
 Conduct donor visits regularly and often
 Make direct solicitations and close gifts
 Write solicitation letters and proposals
 Track and meet deadlines
 Create a planned giving strategy, identify potential planned giving donors, and develop
cultivation and solicitation strategies
 Report regularly on progress, achievements, obstacles, and difficulties
 Engage other Friends Foundation and library staff members, trustees and volunteers in
fundraising efforts as appropriate and necessary
 Assist with and attend foundation events as appropriate
Event Sponsorship
Develop and implement plan for increasing sponsorships for the Booklovers Ball, our signature
black-tie gala
 Develop a plan for ticket sales and sponsorships, including financial goals





Recruit and manage a volunteer team to sell tickets and sponsorships, and conduct regular
meetings
Develop , distribute and follow up on written sponsorship packages
Work with committee members to reach goals, including meeting with potential sponsors
Work with staff to oversee fulfillment of sponsorship packages, including signage and logo
placement
Manage additional solicitation program at the event

We want you if your background and skillset includes:
 A bachelor’s degree
 Seven years development experience in progressively challenging positions with a proven
track record
 Knowledge of and experience in donor identification, solicitation, cultivation, and asking for
and closing major gifts
 Strong interpersonal and communication skills including writing, speaking and conversing
 A proven record of successful management of a portfolio of donors
 Demonstrated leadership and management skills and experience
 Proficiency in Microsoft Office
 Raisers Edge proficiency a plus
 The ability to lift 30+lbs
