Due to the time constraints of this competition the referees will not clarify rules or rulings during the game. Rule 2 - Number of Players Teams consist of not more than 10 players and a coach. At any time during play there are 5 players on the court and a maximum of 5 substitutes. The coach may address his players during the game provided they do not enter the court. In the mixed competition there is to be a maximum of 3 males on the court at any one time. There is no limit to the number of females. Teams are required to have 4 players to start a match. The clock will start at the designated game time and if a team does not have 4 eligible players once the first 10 minutes has passed, the match will be deemed a forfeit at a score of 20-0. In the key area a male is not allowed to jump in order to block a female who is in the action of shooting. However a male may still defend the action of a female shooting as long as feet remain on the ground. Rule 3 - Uniforms Teams must be in correct uniform. Singlets must be numbered on the front and back. Only the numbers 4 – 15 (inclusive) are permitted. Players from the same team may not wear the same number. Rule 4 – Game Duration Games consist of 2 by 20 minute halves with the half time break not exceeding 5 minutes. The clock will stop in the last minute of the second half (on all whistles and made baskets) if the score is a ten (10) point difference of less. If the score is tied at the end of playing time, the score will remain a draw. Both teams will be awarded two (2) Competition points for the match. Rule 5 - Finals The last 3 mins of the last half of the match is to be fully timed. During this period, the clock stops for all made baskets and whistles. Teams may substitute when the opposing team score’s. If the score is tied at the end of playing time, extra time of 5 mins will be played. Fouls will carry over into extra time and the last 3 mins is fully timed. Rule 6 - Scoring Field baskets score two (2) points or three (3) if the ball is released from the three-point area. The position of the shooter is determined from were the shooter last touched the court before releasing the ball. Free throws may be awarded to a player resulting from a foul committed by the opposing team. Each successful free throw scores one (1) point. If a team accidentally scores a field basket in the wrong basket, the points are awarded to the opposing team. Rule 7 - Charged Time-outs -3- Time will only be stopped for time-outs in the final two minutes of each game. Time-outs outside this time will not be timed as games will be played on a running clock. During the final two minutes only one (1) time-out is permitted for each team, even if a time-out has not yet been taken by a team. The coach or a team member requests a charged time-out by going to the score-table and making such a request. The scorer signals the officials at the next opportunity. Charged time-outs are granted after any whistle or if an opponent scores a field basket. Rule 8 - Substitutions Substitutions are requested by the substitute (not the coach) by going to the score-table and requesting a substitution. Substitutions are permitted by either team if a foul or jump ball is called or a time-out granted. After a violation, only the team to be awarded the ball may initiate a substitution.
