This Presentation Aim
Focusing on Newman and Holzman´s inspiring discussion of
Vygotsky as a Revolutionary Scientist to the work developed
by the Research Group LACE projects conducted by the
Brazilian Research Group Language in Activities in School
Contexts - LACE coordinated by Magalhães and Liberali, since
2002.
Based on the writings of Vygotsky and on a CriticalCollaborative Intervention Research methodology.
Central Issue
Building communities between researchers and
school participants to break the rigid hierarchy that
traditionally organizes the relationships in schools, as
well as between the school and the social
communities around.
Critical-Collaborative Perspective
The movement of reality comprehension, analysis and
transformation through reflection based on the inseparability of
theory and practice, the real needs of participants and the
actions that enable different viewpoints to be developed.
Critical Collaboration relies on modes of action that involve
sharing responsibility for the whole. Each person becomes
responsive for the process of their own and others´ actions and
for the development of the group. It implies in creating
contradictions crisis as central to the foundations for the new.
Central Concept: Creating Performatory ZPD
Creating performatory zpds means creating a collaborativecritical way for participants from different economical and
literacy levels, and from school hierarchy in order to work
collectively to create environments for language organization
that might involve participants in speaking as performance and
speaking as narration (Vygotsky as a Marxist dialectical
materialist methodologist, and on Newman and Holzman (2010,
2014) and Holzman (2009), Holzman, 2010).
Global Perspectives on Learning and Development with Digital Video-Editing Media
- An international project (University of Crete, Free University Berlin, Institute of
Education/University of London, Jawaharlal Nehru University , Moscow State
University of Psychology and Education, Pontifical University Catholic de Sao
Paulo);
- DIGIT-M-ED Brazil is involved in conducting a critical-collaborative intervention
research in municipal and state schools as a partnership organized as a universityschool-community for a joint production of curricular proposals that might
reorganize the State of São Paulo public schools curriculum.
- The project is conducted with literacies learning and development with the
critical-collaborative participation of children and young students, their teachers,
coordinators and other participants from school community. The use of multiple
media aims to encourage the participation of individuals in the production of
curricular proposals that enable teaching-learning processes and engage students
with the needs of their contexts and a variety of contents, and with citizenship
constitution.
An Elementary School Literacy Project - LEDA - Reading and
Writing in Different Areas;
A teacher education project as a community building between a research group
and the school participants to the production of a critical collaborative context
among all participants. It aimed at creating contexts so that the school
practitioners’ could systematically visualize and understand their classroom
actions, analyze them as related to classroom literacy video watching, theoretical
texts reading and relate practice to theory. It is central to the project the
performance of classroom scenes to enhance the possibilities to speak in critical
ways to understand and transform their classroom action.
It was a project to deal with literacies leaning and development in an elementary
school aimed at critically analyze students´ maintenance of reading and writing
scores in the evaluations of SARESP (System of School Assessment of the State of
São Paulo) in a school located in a city in the outskirts of the Greater São Paulo .
Students come from low literacy homes.
The construction of the College of the
Educator – director
A dream of the Research Group LACE, Rosemary
Hohlenwerger Schettini turned as reality- to organize a
College to build communities to students to offer a critical
learning and development environment to students who could
not pay the private good colleges or could not enter the free
public schools.
The focus is on citizenship constituition and transformation.
