Wording for Advertisement: An exciting opportunity exists for a Koori Preschool Assistant to join the educational
team at Richardson Primary School. The successful applicant will be working as a member of a team to provide
support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The successful applicant will work closely with and receive
direction from the teacher in assisting with the management and learning of children in Richardson Primary School's
Koori Preschool program. As a part of a team the assistant will assist with program material preparation, behaviour
management, supervision of children on the playground and on excursions and any specialised medical requirements.
Eligibility/Other Requirements: Desirable: First Aid qualification, or willingness to undertake appropriate training.
From the start of 2014 all ACT public school preschool unit assistants will be required to have, or be working towards
a minimum qualification requirement of a Certificate III in Children's Services or Certificate IV in Education Support.
Note: Note: This is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identified position.
This is a part time position at 15.37 per week.

Types of Vacancies
Permanent Vacancy
A vacancy which has no nominal occupant that is advertised on the Jobs Website for
permanent filling.
Applications are received by Shared Services Recruitment unless otherwise requested.
Expected Vacancy
A vacancy which has a current nominal occupant, but is expected to become vacant while
being advertised on the Jobs Website for permanent filling.
Applications received by Shared Services Recruitment unless otherwise specified.
Temporary Vacancy
(less than 6 months)
Formerly referred to as a Whole of Government Request to Advertise.
A vacancy which is advertised as a Whole of Government email and on the Jobs Website
and for temporary filling for a period of less than 6 months.
Recruitment Selection Committee Report is not required to place a suitable applicant in a
temporary position. A temporary contract package is to be provided to Shared Services
Recruitment (where applicable).
Applications received by Contact Officer or Shared Services Recruitment.
Process can be streamlined by the Contact Officer receiving the applications directly,
allowing selection of a suitable applicant and placement to happen quicker.

Shared Services Recruitment:
 Advertise vacancies (including casual/temporary employment registers) - standard process e.g. Jobs Website
and press/media formats through ACTPS Media Provider.
 On request, facilitate the advertising of temporary vacancies less than 6 months by Whole of Government
message.
 Publish selection documentation for all advertised positions and generic application pack for applicants
(permanent vacancies, long term temporary vacancies advertised on the Jobs Website and casual/temporary
employment registers) via www.jobs.act.gov.au.

Special Employment Arrangement
Ticking the Special Employment Arrangement box will add the following note to the advertisement:

applicant.
Targeted Advertising
It is important that you consider whether there is value in placing your vacancy in the Press and/or Publications. Will
your vacancy gain additional exposure and a higher calibre of applicants? Is your vacancy in a hard to recruit section
and therefore will be beneficial to target specific press/publications?
The default options provided are those of which have been most popular though not necessarily what is best suited

Specialist Recruitment categories include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, People with Disability, Occupational
Health and Safety, Community Services, Executive and Senior Management.
Advertising Costs
The costs below are indicative only. For advertisement costing $6,000 and below you may not be provided with
costing prior to publication. By approving a Request to Advertise (with press advertising) the delegate is approving
these approximate expenditures. Press advertisements will be placed in the press after publication of the vacancy on
the Jobs Website. Cut-offs for regional papers/other publications vary depending on the individual medium.

Responsibility/Delegation
It is the responsibility of the Recommending Officer that the content in the Request to Advertise is relevant and
accurate. Care and consideration should be taken when writing the wording for an advertisement; this is one of the
key factors in gaining increased exposure and potentially receiving a higher calibre of applications.
The content must be relevant and true to the vacant position, position numbers and all other related detail must be
accurate.
It is crucial that the approval has been obtained from the appropriate delegate, failure to do so will cause delays in
processing.

Requesting Variation To Standard Application Package
When requesting a variation to the Standard Application Package you will need to make a note in the Special
Instructions field and provide any additional information and/or documents when lodging your Request to Advertise
form.
A Recruitment Officer will contact you to provide further guidance. Please note the standard processing deadlines
will be different slightly for this process.
Changes to the Standard Application Package may include adding additional information about the position or
requesting specific information to be captured from the application.
Selection Documentation
Selection Documentation supplied to potential applicants for the position will be the documents stored by Shared
Services. It is important the selection documents accurately describe the role and any mandatory or desired
requirements for the advertised position. To create (for new positions only) or substantially amend the duties
described in the documents, submit an Establishment Variation Authority and a MS Office Word version of the
amended documents to [email protected] prior to advertising.
