4. SCHOOL UNIFORM 14th August 2013 Welcome to a new session at Hillington Primary. I hope everyone had a great holiday. We encourage the children to wear their full Hillington School uniform every day. This includes grey/navy skirts, grey/navy trousers and shoes, but not jogging trousers, leggings, denims or trainers. SCHOOL HOURS Our school hours are:8.55 – 10.25 am 10.40 am – 12.10 pm Lunch 1.00 – 3.00 pm £9.00 & £10.00 £8.00 & £9.00 £3.50 £4.50 £4.00 5. SUMMER SERVICE Pr. 1 children will dismiss at 12.10 pm until 30th August. £185.00 was raised at our summer service in June for Juvenile Diabetes Research Scotland. Thank you for your generous donation. 2. LUNCHTIME 6. CHARITY EVENTS It is the policy of the Education Department that children who take school meals or a packed lunch, remain in school during lunch break. In June, our Pr. 7 children took part in the Go Yellow Walk in Bellahouston Park, to raise funds for the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice. They collected the sum of £430.00. Well done to last session’s Pr. 7 children. Only children who are going home for lunch will be allowed out of school at lunchtime. Please be aware that the cost of lunch has increased from £1.15 to £1.40 and that this is Menu Week One. 3. TUCK Water is available to all our children every day. Parents may wish to give their children a small snack to eat during the morning interval. As Hillington Primary is a health promoting school, we would encourage the children to have healthy snacks, not sugary ones. Thank you for your co-operation in this. Also Pr. 4 took part in Jump Rope For Heart as part of their enterprise education. They raised £431.00 of which £344.80 was donated to the British Heart Foundation and £86.20 was donated to the school fund. Thank you and well done to Pr. 4 who are now Pr. 5. 7. SWIMMING Swimming lessons will begin for Pr. 6/5 on Wednesday, 21st August 2013. Remember your swimming kit! 8. To accommodate everyone, parents can chose whether to attend the meeting at 1.30 – 2.30 pm or 7.00 – 8.00 pm. On this occasion we cannot provide a crèche, so please make alternative arrangements for your child/children. The meeting is for adults only. Thank you. 9. MEDICINE IN SCHOOL Miss Kimberley Murphy will teach Pr. 6a. If your child requires medication in school, please speak to school staff to sign the appropriate form. Thank you. Miss Morgan Wright will teach Pr. 7a. 10. MOBILE TELEPHONES Please see under* Children are asked to switch off all mobile phones during the school day. HAND HELD GAME CONSOLES Looking forward to a successful year. Children should not bring hand held game consoles into school as they can become lost or damaged. Thank you. 12. COLLECTING CHILDREN SCHOOL GATE AT THE Please follow the traffic order outside our school, “No stopping, Monday-Friday, 8 am - 6 pm on entrance markings” i.e. on the yellow zigzag lines. This order is enforced by Land Services Parking Attendants. Hillington Primary is a health promoting school. At our last Parent Council meeting in June, the issue of children inhaling cigarette smoke from parents waiting to collect children was raised. With your support, we would like to have a smoke-free zone around our school at 3.00pm. STAFF NEWS Mrs Jane Donald, has been appointed as the Support for Learning co-ordinator for the Rosshall Learning Community and she will be based in Rosshall Academy. We would like to thank Mrs Donald for all her support and contribution to Hillington Primary and wish her well in her new post. We would also like to welcome five new members of staff and hope they enjoy their time at Hillington. Miss Elaine Dawson will teach Pr. 1a. Mrs Jane Lawson will teach Pr. 1b. Mr Kevin Edgar will job-share with Miss Rodger and teach Pr. 2a, Monday – Thursday.
