Northwest Hockey League (NWHL)
Last season the South Suburban Hockey League merged with the Northwest
Hockey League to create one large league for Chicago land. The NWHL now
has 25 member clubs, which means for more teams and stronger competition.
Arctic family feed back has been all positive and being part of the NWHL last

Tiering within the league
The NWHL tiers each division in order to maintain stronger play for the
skaters. In tiering, the goal is to match teams up as evenly as possible to
prevent high goal differentials. Each division will play a tiering round prior to

Creating teams based on parity
Although the league tiers, all clubs must follow the AHAI rule that house
league teams are still created based on parity. This means that when doing
team evaluations, the talent level is split evenly amongst the teams. The NWHL
has VERY strict procedures on how to do this properly and Arctic will follow
these procedures. Even though at the beginning of the season teams are even,
by mid or end of season, they will pull away from each other because of
different coaching styles and the rate in which skaters improve. Please see
evaluation information to learn more about the evaluation process.
2015-2016 Mite Play
The NWHL follows the AHAI model for Mite house league play. Mite teams will
play 9, full ice games after December 1, 2015. This leaves room for 2
tournaments for each team if they desire. These 9 games include tiering round
games. Prior to Dec. 1, mite teams can ONLY play half ice or cross ice games.
The NWHL allows teams to schedule, at their discretion, as many half ice
games as they desire. HF will be hosting the 9th annual Mite Fright Jamboree
in October and hopes to pull in NWHL teams. Play-off games don’t count

Body Checking Clinic
All Bantams are required to attend a checking clinic before games commence.
The first 2 powerskates of the season for Bantams, coach Chris Cimoch will
conduct and run a U.S.A hockey approved checking clinic.

House League
House League is our developmental / recreational hockey program. The
emphasis of our league is on individual player development. Time
commitment is approximately 2-3 hours per week for either practices and/or
games, which are generally on the weekends. Powerskate is during the week.
Home games are played at Arctic Ice Arena, and away games will be played at
local rinks VS other clubs. In addition, house teams may participate in up to 3
tournaments, including no more than one out of state. Mites are limited to
the amount of tournaments per AHAI regulations.

Powerskates, weekly practices, league games, one pair of game socks, two
game jerseys (home/away), and league team fees.
Other possible fees include all tournaments, travel, registrations and permits,
team parties, apparel, or extra ice time.
Due to high cost of goalie equipment, house goalies will receive a 35%
discount.
Arctic is committed to excellence in our house league program. Each player
will receive extensive evaluation during the course of the season, highlighting
skills that need improvement.
