AIM: Accurate replication of individual skills and transfer of these into a game situation. Development skills and tactics in structured plays to
enable candidates to perform in the context of the GCSE assessment. Pupils will focus on developing advanced skills and apply them in game
situations in order to outwit opponents. Pupils should be provided the opportunity to be assessed in an official or coaching capacity.

Pupils will further develop the ability to outwit
opponents and teams using strategies and tactics. Pupils
will perform and replicate the skills of passing,
receiving, dribbling, shooting, rebounding and
defensive movements. Pupils should evaluate
performances giving constructive feedback.

Warm up: Develop - cross over, behind back and in and out of cones.

Progress to 1 v 1 on a basket. How can you outwit an opponent?
Drive, fake, body positioning. Small games: 4 v 4.
1.10 minutes free shooting. Must stay within 1M of basket –square to
basket.
2. Pivot to face basket and shoot.
3. Pass to shooter, pivots and shoots.
4.Conditioned game: turn over results in defenders going back inside
key – when attacker has ball inside of key, they must shoot.

The use of reverse and left hand lay

Offence & Tactics
To perform necessary skills and

attacking and defending tactics. Defensive stance.
1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 drills and small games. They will apply the
principles of zone and man to man defense.

3. Face forward for guards not forwards. Have forwards have a

Man to Man Defence

Five seconds stay with player (in restricted area-no ball).
One pass step away. If ball goes 2 passes away you should
be 2 steps away from your player.
3. 1 on 1, 2 on 2 drills – 2 lines (left and right og gym), give
each a number. When you call, both numbers called go for
the ball and player who gets ball attacks a stated basket.
Open game: Designated positions. Nominate a point guard and two
forwards who will play the baseline on attack.
Look at shooter to see which way they go.
Then turn into the player. If your left pivot
your left foot , if they go to your right then
pivot on right foot into their path. Make
contact!
Nominate two shooters who will be allowed to
shoot from outside the key.
Feet wide – either side of the attacker.
In drill – if opposite player gets ball first, cut
to a defensive position, i.e. cut off attacker.
Game: Do not allow fast breaks, But
encourage players to get back
quickly.
Game extension: when in game, if you whistle, player with ball puts it
down and team switches to offense – how quick can a team transition?
