As parents and school we can continue to work
together to keep our young people safe. We have put

Children.
together some useful information for you to look at
and be aware of, in particular current on-line risks and
dangers. If you ever have concerns, about a child or a
young person, please contact Lincolnshire Children’s
Service on 01522 782111 or your local Children’s
Service Customer Service Centre. Both Warren Wood
(Sarah De Fraine) and Aegir (Karen Burt) have
Designated Safeguarding Leads that are also available
for advice and support.
Fidget Spinners
As you will no doubt be aware fidget spinners have
become the new craze marketed to allegedly help
reduce stress and anxiety particularly for those with
ADHD and ADD. We have been informed that these
have now been adapted and some, as shown in the
pictures below are sharp and could be potentially
dangerous.
Please be aware that fidget spinners such as those
pictured can be dangerous and we have been
informed that they could be classed as an
offensive weapon by police. These types of spinners
are banned from our school premises.
The blue whale challenge is reported to involve
people being set a series of tasks (self-harm
challenges) over 50 days. The tasks start off
innocently such as watching a scary movie; however,
gradually they build on the acts of self-harm such as
carving an image of the blue whale into their skin.

On the 50th day of the game the masters instruct the
young people to commit suicide. Sadly many have
done this across the world.
Online concerns and abuse can be reported to the
Child Exploitation and online protection.

We would like to advise parents to be vigilant and
monitor students’ internet usage. If you have any
concerns about this or any other online issues please
contact Karen Burt at Aegir or Sarah De Fraine at
Warren Wood.

Internet Safety
Whilst your child is at school we take their safety and security very seriously, including their
online safety. As parents we are sure you are more than aware of the risks our young people
face online and that they do not always realise they are putting themselves at risk. As parents
we ask you to be vigilant about what your child accesses on the internet. Although it is the
policy of Facebook and other well-known social networks that children under the age of 13 are
not allowed a profile, it is widely known many children below that age are accessing this type of
social media.
We strongly advise that children under the age of 13 do not have access to these networks.
Those that are aged 13 or above should be reminded about the sharing of personal information
and making new “friends” on social media that in fact they do not know.

Please ensure the security settings are set to the highest level so
that only friends can see their information
 Check that their friends are people they know in the real world
 Discuss safe use with your child
To assist parents the Government has announced a package of measures to help keep children
safe online. Listed below are websites that you may find useful:

To help parents understand, prevent and respond to Cyber bullying, Childnet has launched a
new website: www.childnet.com/parents-and-carers safe online.
Our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy is available on our school website.
It is regularly updated in line with statutory requirements
