Troubleshooting the ADVC-300 on the Mac OS 10.6.2.
First we should make sure that the ADVC product is detected properly by the operating system.
Step one. Click the Apple logo and select “About this Mac”
In the next window, “About This Mac”. Click on the “More Info…” button.
In the next window, Select FireWire in the left pane. In the right pane you should see your ADVC
Device listed along with any other FireWire devices.
If you do not see your ADVC device…
1)
2)
3)
4)
5)
Reboot the MAC with the ADVC connected.
Try another 1394 port
Try another fire wire cable.
Make sure you have all updates from Apple.
Try the ADVC in another Apple/MAC
What lights come on when the device is not detected?
1) None : Call support. Number listed below to begin an RMA for your device.
2) Both Analog and Digital
2a) Can you switch between the 2 using Input select? If no, Call support. (ADVC300,
Switch 8 Bank1 must be OFF for this test) Try another MAC again as a final test.
2b) If you can switch between Analog/digital, you may have an incompatibility with your
Mac’s Fire wire card. Try another card or another MAC to verify ADVC works.
3) If all lights are on, Analog/Digital/Status. Your ADVC has failed. Please contact Support
for an RMA.
4) If only Analog OR digital is on and you can switch between them normally, please try
another MAC/PC to see if it is recognized. If not please call support for an RMA.
If the problem persists beyond the above steps, please contact support at 801-222-5204 to begin
an RMA for your device. ADVC products have a One year warranty. Please be prepared to provide
the original invoice for your product as proof of purchase for the warranty.
If the ADVC is detected…
Step two.
Open iMovie
It should open like the following picture.
Make sure you are in Camera mode. It Should say “Camera Connected” as it does above.
Now click the play button…
You should now see one of two things.
1) “Camera Playing”
You will see this when the ADVC is not receiving video to convert. The ADVC will be in Analog
In mode.
2) Active Video
You will see video playing normally if the ADVC is receiving video properly.
If you can see video here, then the ADVC is working properly.
If you cannot see video, please verify you are not in “Digital In” mode. Check the light on the front.
Hit the input select button if you are.
PLEASE NOTE: ADVC 55 devices are always in “Analog In” mode and do not have a select switch.
They also do not have analog out and cannot be connected to a TV Monitor.
If you cannot switch between modes, or if BOTH LIGHTS ARE ON. Then either your ADVC has
taken a power hit (Voltage spike) from possibly hot plugging (Most common) the fire wire cable or
other outside influence, or there could be an incompatibility with your ADVC and your fire wire
card. Please follow the same steps above for trouble-shooting device manager.
Other tips/tricks:
Connecting a monitor to the back of the ADVC product(ADVC 110/300) can also help determine
problems with Audio/Video. In most cases if you get video to the TV monitor then the ADVC
should be working properly as that is going through the chipset inside.
Pressing and holding the input select button (ADVC 110/300) for 7 seconds will bring up color
bars and tests the conversion chip. Press input select once more to get out of test mode.
Remember that _ONLY_ one video source cable may be connected at one time. Either composite
or s-video. If the ADVC detects a cable in the s-video port it will not use any signal from the
composite port.
The ADVC 110/300 is _not_ intended as a hub or pass through DV device. Connecting a DV
camera through the ADVC to your PC is not supported and does nothing for the video coming
from the camera.
