CARDS USED IN THE NATIONAL 4-H LIVESTOCK JUDGING CONTEST
The cards below are the type that will be used in the National 4-H Livestock Judging Contest. Please
review them with your participants prior to the contest. This might prevent the possible mistake of
incorrectly marking a card.
Placing Cards:
Team number - this should be the same on each card in the contestant’s packet.
Class number - Should range from 1-10 with each class on a different colored card.
Marking the card - The desired placing and the accompanying letter should be circled. Pencils
should be used as it is easier to make changes if the contestant so wishes.
Collection of cards - Cards will be taken up in numerical order by the group leader. Please
instruct your contestants to cooperate with the group leader to expedite the contest.
Questions Cards:
A scantron card will be used to answer questions. Cards will be distributed to contestants
when questions are asked. A #2 pencil is required to complete the scantron card. Pencils will
be made available for those who do not have any. Further instructions will be provided to
coaches at the coaches meeting and reiterated to students prior to them answering the
questions.
Up to 10 questions will be asked on each of the two classes. If the contestant believes that the
answer to question 1 is animal #2, then he/she would blacken in the rectangle that
corresponds with the #2 choice for question 1. On the opposite side of this page, you will find
a sample copy of the question card to be used. Only the first 10 questions will be used.
