Criteria and weightings
1) Points for publications in indexed journals. Scores are obtained using a normalised impact factor
calculated as the quotient between the corresponding JCR impact factor (or the latest available)
divided by the added impact factor of the category in which the journal is included. For journals
listed in more than one category, the highest impact factor will be chosen. Finally, is the
candidate is not the first author of the contribution, the previous highest normalised score will
be reduced to 50%.
2) Points for patents: a) Spanish patent application 0.5 points, b) Spanish patent awarded 1 point,
c) PCT application 1 point, d) PCT awarded 2 points.
3) Books and book chapters published by renowned publishers according to the Academic
Committee: a) book chapters 1 point, b) whole books 3 points. If the candidate is not the first
author, a 50 % reduction is applied.
4) Oral presentations by the candidate at conferences with the candidate listed as the first author.
a) Spanish conferences and Graduate Students' Meetings 0.5 points, b) international
conferences 1 point.
5) Others conference papers: 0.1 points each.
6) If there is a tie between two candidates, the following criteria will be applied:
a) Number of articles as first author in indexed journals and that appear in the first decile of
one of the categories.
b) If the candidates are still tied after applying criterion A, the academic committee will take
into account the number of articles as first author in indexed journals and that appear in the
first quartile of one of the categories.
c) If the candidates are still tied after applying criterion B, the academic committee will take
into account the number of articles as first author in indexed journals and that appear in the
second quartile of one of the categories.
d) If the candidates are still tied after applying criterion C, the academic committee will take
into account the number of articles as first author in indexed journals and that appear in the
third quartile of one of the categories.
e) If the candidates are still tied after applying criterion D, the academic committee will take
into account the total number of articles as first author in indexed articles.
f) If the candidates are still tied after applying criterion E, the academic committee will take
into account the highest weighted impact factor.
g) If the candidates are still tied after applying criterion F, the academic committee will take
into account the second highest weighted impact factor.
7) If the candidates are still tied after applying all the previous criteria, the academic committee
will apply another criterion.


Curriculum vitae and DAD of the candidate.
Copies of the publications deriving from the thesis: articles, patents, book chapters,
conference papers, etc. including the quality indicators for these publications: impact factor,
citations, reports, etc.
