APPLICATIONS FOR EXECUTIVE POSITIONS
EXECUTIVE POSITIONS SUMMARY
PRESIDENT: The President of WIHSC represents students attending Conestoga College
enrolled in health-related studies. The President (in conjunction with the Faculty Advisor(s), and
Vice-President) oversees and directs the activities of WIHSC. The President is responsible for
setting meeting agendas and organizing and running these meetings. They also organize the
peer-mentoring sessions (schedule and topics). Meetings occur at a minimum of once per
month at the discretion of the President, but may be held more frequently based on the need
and level of activity. The President works alongside the Vice-President and Faculty Advisors and
acts as a liaison between administration and students. Candidates must be organized,
demonstrate enthusiasm for interprofessional practice, and have excellent inter-personal
communication skills. The President may be asked to speak in front of large audiences and at
events throughout the year to describe the initiatives, goals and achievements of WIHSC.
VICE-PRESIDENT: The Vice-President of WIHSC shall assist the President in all matters
pertaining to WIHSC. Specifically, the Vice-President shall assist in the creation of agenda
items, and act as a co-chairperson at meetings. The Vice-President may be invited to meetings
in conjunction with the President to facilitate interaction between administration and WIHSC
members. Candidates must be organized, demonstrate enthusiasm for interprofessional
practice, and possess excellent communication skills. The Vice-President may be asked to
speak at Interprofessional events throughout the school year.
NAHSSA BOARD OF DIRECTORS REPRESENTATIVE: NaHSSA (National Health Sciences
Student Association) is the National Student Association of which WIHSC is a Regional Chapter.
The NaHSSA Representative sits on the NaHSSA Board of Directors and represents WIHSC at
all NaHSSA (teleconference) meetings which are held ~ once/month. The NaHSSA
Representative shares WIHSC initiatives at these meetings with other IPE groups from across
Canada, and learns about the activities of other NaHSSA Chapters. This representative will
provide an update at each WIHSC meeting to keep all members informed and to bring new
ideas and new potentially resources to WIHSC. Candidates must possess an enthusiasm for

interprofessional collaboration, excellent communication skills and the ability to commit to
monthly telephone meetings with NaHSSA as well as WIHSC meetings.
SECRETARY: The secretary of WIHSC records minutes and attendance for all meetings
throughout the school year; communicates information to members through electronic
newsletter, facebook, and the www.wihsc.com website; responds to or redirects general e-mail
inquiries; manages the membership list; and keeps track of event registration lists. The
secretary must process strong computer skills, including knowledge of MS Word and basic
HTML, in order to maintain the website, good organizational skill, professional written and verbal
communication skills, willingness to learn, and a strong sense of responsibility. The secretary
must also be committed to regularly attend scheduled meetings, which will be determined
according to the executive panel's academic schedules and maintained throughout the term,
and demonstrate enthusiasm for interprofessional collaboration.
New! MEMBER COORDINATOR: Each year, we start new enrolment for WIHSC as many
Health Science students have graduated and moved on. The member coordinator is responsible
for starting the new list of members. They must also maintain a current list of members and their
contact information to ensure all members can be reached and kept up to date. Each year we
have alumni who wish to return specifically to stay involved with WIHSC, the member
coordinator must also reach out to those members and include them where appropriate. The
Member Coordinator may be required to speak to various classes and increase enrolment. They
may also be required to assist the secretary in content management for the website (or sending
emails) as it pertains to members. Candidates should have a strong interest in
Interprofessionalism, excellent written and verbal communications skills and be extremely
organized.
TREASURER(S): The treasurers of WIHSC help to control the monies in conjunction with the
faculty advisor and CSI. The treasurers provide regular updates to WIHSC members at
scheduled meetings. The treasurers have signing authority on WIHSC’s account and help to

negotiate expenses throughout the year. Treasurers should be able to bring fundraising ideas
and potentially sponsorship contacts to WIHSC to aid in fundraising. Two candidates are
chosen for this position to work with each other and maintain the finances together.
New! PROGRAM REPRESENTATIVES: To ensure that students from all programs hear about
the exciting opportunities WIHSC has to offer, each Health Science/Community Services
Program will be assigned a Program Representative. The Program Representative will be
responsible for relaying any information to their colleagues, which may include such items as to
increase member enrolment or to invite non-members to attend certain WIHSC events. This
Candidate must be able to attend all monthly meetings (or send a responsible replacement),
and feel comfortable speaking in front of their peers.
A Program Representative will be chosen for any program that would like to be involved
with WIHSC – WIHSC is not exclusive and is happy to include all programs offered at
Conestoga College.
**Important note: All Candidates MUST commit to regular attendance at the monthly
meetings; they must contribute at these meetings and they must constantly represent
WIHSC - as student leaders from Conestoga College and within the community.
