Welcome to Abacus
What is Abacus?




It is a new Primary Maths Curriculum
It is linked to the Revised Areas of
Learning
It’s aim is to inspire children and to make
them confident mathematicians
It provides children with maths games,
worksheets, interactive games etc…
Using Abacus at Home



You will need access to a computer,
laptop, iPad etc…
You will need Google Chrome or Mozilla
Firefox web browsers
If you choose to use Internet Explorer, you
will need to have version 9
Getting Started



Go to the school website and click on the
link ‘Login to my Abacus’.
Enter the child’s login details and click ‘Log
in’
Once logged in the children will have
access to the Pupil Home
Foundation Phase Homework



In Foundation Phase the pupils will be
allocated interactive games to play that
link to the maths skill covered that week.
They may also be given a video to watch
that will reinforce the teaching strategies
covered that week.
Parents can work with their child and give
them some examples to practise.
Key Stage 2 Homework





In Key Stage 2 the pupils will be allocated interactive
games to play that link to the maths skill covered that
week.
They may also be given a video to watch that will
reinforce the teaching strategies covered that week.
Parents can work with their child and give them some
examples to practise.
Pupils may be given a worksheet to use alongside the
videos.
They may also be given just a worksheet or a textbook
page to reinforce the skills covered.
Homework and the Class Teacher




Homework will not be allocated online until all
classes are set up with a password.
The class teacher will check to see if homework
has been completed.
Depending on how successful the child has been
in completing their homework, a reinforcement
or an extension task may be set.
Homework will not be set online every week.
Homework and the Parents



Parents are able to check their child’s
online account to see if homework has
been allocated that week.
Parents need to watch any video allocated
for homework with their child.
Parents may want to practise some of the
strategies taught with their child.
Handy Hints



Always ensure that you log out of Abacus
Active after each session and shut your
computer down.
This will allow new updated homework to
successfully enter your child’s account.
Keep a copy of your child’s username and
password in case they lose it!
