Week 12

Boise Galloway Training – Week 12 (April 30 – May 6)
Dear Galloway Athlete,
What a nice, easy run we all had yesterday! Even though we're limited on our routes
because of the flooding on the Greenbelt, we should all be thankful for Spring finally
making an appearance.
Next Saturday is the longest run before the Famous Potato races, so if you haven't been
coming to our Saturday group training and haven't been keeping up with your training
schedule, we really need to talk! Some of you have told your PGL(s) or me what you're
doing, but if you haven't, and haven't responded to my personal email, I would
really, really appreciate an update so we know what's going on. Pretty please???

1. Next Magic Mile: May 13
We'll be doing the last Magic Mile of the season on May 13 @ 8:00am at the Boise High
School track.
It'll be fun to see how well you've all progressed over the season! There could definitely
be changes in pace groups for our 20-week members, who will be continuing through
June 24. It will also give our Famous Potato participants some guidance about your race
pace.
2. Race pace practice
As some of you found out yesterday, your run may have been a little challenging if you
haven't been practicing race pace during your mid-week runs. You still have some time
before Famous Potato and beyond, and we will be picking up the pace again for part of
our long run this coming Saturday.
If you haven't been practicing that faster pace (which is completely fine if increasing your
speed isn't your goal!), please go with the next group back so you don't hold up your
teammates who have been practicing.
3. Famous Potato plans - PLEASE RESPOND!
It would be very helpful to know what you're doing on May 20. It's great to know who to
look for before the race and at the finish line.
Please let me know which of the following you will be doing:
1. Famous Potato 10k
2. Famous Potato half marathon
3. Doing my YOYO (you're on your own) run
4. Other (no explanation necessary)
5. Don't know yet (you should probably decide pretty soon!)
All you have to do is respond with #1, #2, #3, #4 or #5 with or without
any explanation.
If you're not doing the race, talk to your group this Saturday tosee who else might be
looking for running buddies that day.
4. Continuing with Boise Galloway Training
Some of you signed up for the 15 week training but want to continue through June with
us. Some signed up for either the 15 or 20 week training and can't imagine life without
us so want to continue until November.
For the former, it's a simple matter of paying the difference between the 15 and 20 week
training. For new members, that would be $20 and for Alumni, it's $15. You can just
bring me cash (exact amount, please!) or a check (made out to me).
If you want to continue through the rest of the year (ending Nov. 4), I will be putting
registration up on Active this week. I will be offering the special pricing only for a limited
time so we can start registering for the new season separately. I want to avoid the
inevitable confusion several different registrations can cause. I'll send out the information
in a separate email as soon as it's up and will let you know what the deadline is.
Anyone interested in marathon training should let me know ASAP!
5. Inov8 -- Chance to win a trip to the UK!
Shu's Idaho Running Co. will be having a demo of Inov8 trail shoes at Camelsback
on May 13 at 7:30am if anyone is interested in trying them out. You can also register to
win an all-expense paid trip to the Lake District in the United Kingdom! For more
information, check this out: Get a Grip competition
6. Training for Saturday, May 6 @ 8:00am at Municipal Park
As mentioned, this Saturday will be the longest training for our Famous Potato 10k and
half marathon members, so please try to come! If you can't make it to training, you'll
need to do it on your own. If that's the case, put something on our Member FB page and
see if there's anyone else who has to miss Saturday.
Distances
10k: 7 miles
Half marathon: 12.5 miles
